Many liberals celebrated when Hamtramck, Michigan, elected a Muslim-majority council in 2015 but a vote to exclude LGBTQ+ flags from city property has soured relations

In 2015, many liberal residents in Hamtramck, Michigan, celebrated as their city attracted international attention for becoming the first in the United States to elect a Muslim-majority city council.
They viewed the power shift and diversity as a symbolic but meaningful rebuke of the Islamophobic rhetoric that was a central theme of then Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign.
This week many of those same residents watched in dismay as a now fully Muslim and socially conservative city council passed legislation banning Pride flags from being flown on city property that had – like many others being flown around the country – been intended to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.
Muslim residents packing city hall erupted in cheers after the council’s unanimous vote, and on Hamtramck’s social media pages, the taunting has been relentless: “Fagless City”, read one post, emphasized with emojis of a bicep flexing.
In a tense monologue before the vote, Councilmember Mohammed Hassan shouted his justification at LGBTQ+ supporters: “I’m working for the people, what the majority of the people like.”
While Hamtramck is still viewed as a bastion of multiculturalism, the difficulties of local governance and living among neighbors with different cultural values quickly set in following the 2015 election. Some leaders and residents are now bitter political enemies engaged in a series of often vicious battles over the city’s direction, and the Pride flag controversy represents a crescendo in tension.
“There’s a sense of betrayal,” said the former Hamtramck mayor Karen Majewski, who is Polish American. “We supported you when you were threatened, and now our rights are threatened, and you’re the one doing the threatening.”
For about a century, Polish and Ukrainian Catholics dominated politics in Hamtramck, a city of 28,000 surrounded by Detroit. By 2013, largely Muslim Bangladeshi and Yemeni immigrants supplanted the white eastern Europeans, though the city remains home to significant populations of those groups, as well as African Americans, whites and Bosnian and Albanian Americans. According to the 2020 census some 30% to 38% of Hamtramck’s residents are of Yemeni descent, and 24% are of Asian descent, largely Bangladeshi.
After several years of diversity on the council, some see irony in an all-male, Muslim elected government that does not reflect the city’s makeup.
The resolution, which also prohibits the display of flags with ethnic, racist and political views, comes at a time when LGBTQ+ rights are under assault worldwide, and other US cities have passed similar bans, with the vast majority driven by often white politically conservative Americans.
While the situation in Hamtramck largely evolved on its own local dynamics, some outside rightwing agitators connected to national Republican groups have been pushing for the ban on Hamtramck’s social media pages and voiced support for it at Tuesday’s meeting. They are from nearby Dearborn where they were part of an effort last year to ban books with LGBTQ+ themes.
Their talking points mirror those made elsewhere: some Hamtramck Muslims say they simply want to protect children, and gay people should “keep it in their home”.
But that sentiment is “an erasure of the queer community and an attempt to shove queer people back in the closet”, said Gracie Cadieux, a queer Hamtramck resident who is part of the Anti-Transphobic Action group.
Mayor Amer Ghalib, 43, who was elected in 2021 with 67% of the vote to become the nation’s first Yemeni American mayor, told the Guardian on Thursday he tries to govern fairly for everyone, but said LGBTQ+ supporters had stoked tension by “forcing their agendas on others”.
“There is an overreaction to the situation, and some people are not willing to accept the fact that they lost,” he said, referring to Majewski and recent elections that resulted in full control of the council by Muslim politicians.
Though the city’s Muslims are not a monolith and some privately told the Guardian they were “frustrated” with council, the only leader to publicly question it was the former city council member Amanda Jaczkowski, a Polish American who converted to Islam.
In a statement, she raised concerns about the move’s legality: “There are far too many questions to pass this today with any semblance of responsibility.”
On one level, the discord that has flared between Muslim and non-Muslim populations in recent years has its root in a culture clash that is unique to a partly liberal small US city now under conservative Muslim leadership, residents say. Last year, the council approved an ordinance allowing backyard animal sacrifices, shocking some non-Muslim residents even though animal sacrifice is protected under the first amendment in the US as a form of religious expression.
When Michigan legalized marijuana, it gave municipalities a late 2020 deadline to enact a prohibition of dispensaries. Hamtramck council missed the deadline and a dispensary opened, drawing outrage from conservative Muslims who demanded city leadership shut it down. That ignited counterprotests from many liberal residents, and the council only relented when it became clear it had no legal recourse.
At other times, the issues are not unique to Hamtramck. In the realm of local politics, personal fights among neighbors, warring factions and dirty politics are a common part of the democratic process across the US.
“I don’t know that we’re really all that different from other cities in most ways,” Majewski said.
However, race and religion add more fraught layers to Hamtramck’s issues. Islamophobia exists here, and some Muslims say they saw bigotry in local voter fraud investigations, and in LGBTQ+ supporters not respecting their religion.
But Majewski said the majority is now disrespecting the minority. She noted that a white, Christian-majority city council in 2005 created an ordinance to allow the Muslim call to prayer to be broadcast from the city’s mosques five times daily. It did so over objections of white city residents, and Majewski said she didn’t see the same reciprocity with roles reversed.
Ghalib disagreed, and labeled the prayer broadcast a “first amendment issue” while noting no one was asking for city hall to broadcast the calls.
Moreover, the white majority council was not always hospitable to Muslim residents who have previously faced overt racism. And with a majority-Muslim council in place, more Muslims had been appointed to boards and commissions, and hired in city hall. So had some LGBTQ+ residents, Ghalib added.
Despite the political clashes, he thinks there is hope for Hamtramck to live up to its multicultural ideals.
“We can get along and people are not violent here,” he said.
Cadieux agreed peaceful coexistence was possible.
“We aren’t in the business of excluding people from our society and I’m not going to exclude socially conservative Muslims – they have a place at the table just like everyone else,” she said. “However, they cannot, and will not, shove another community out of the way.”

Swedish officials are warning Ukrainian women living in refugee centers not to dress in a way that might provoke men from “other cultures” — code for Muslim migrants, who, in Sweden, are mostly of the Somali variety — who reside in the same refugee center.
And how do these hapless Ukrainian refugees dress, to prompt such a warning? According to Gitana Bengtsson, who has been helping them, “they usually dressed like us, you and me. There is nothing strange about it. They did not look like prostitutes. If those women lived in the city, no one would tell them how to dress.” Even so, and now that summer is near, the site manager has advised them not to wear shorts or skirts that reveal their body parts.
There have, moreover, been several other reports of Muslim migrants attacking or making female Ukrainian refugees feel unsafe. In one instance, migrants broke into the hostels of Ukrainian women living with their children. “They said that Sweden was a safe country, but I have not seen that,” one of these women said later. Another woman said that, in Ukraine, they at least understood and knew how to respond to threats: “[w]hen there are bombs, I know at least that I can go down to the basement and hide there” — whereas now a migrant would-be rapist might be lurking there.
These Ukrainian women, unused to Muslims, apparently need to get with the times and embrace “multicultural” living. The fact is, Western nations that house large Muslim migrant populations have repeatedly implied that if rapes are on the rise in their nations — Sweden is now the rape capital of the West, thanks to its Muslim population — that is because women are not doing “their part.”
A few examples follow.
After a 20-year-old Austrian woman waiting at a bus stop in Vienna was attacked, beaten, and robbed by four Muslim men—including one who “started [by] putting his hands through my hair and made it clear that in his cultural background there were hardly any blonde women” — police responded by telling the victim to dye her hair:
“At first I was scared, but now I’m more angry than anything. After the attack they told me that women shouldn’t be alone on the streets after 8pm. And they also gave me other advice, telling me I should dye my hair dark and also not dress in such a provocative way. Indirectly that means I was partly to blame for what happened to me. That is a massive insult.”
In 2001, Unni Wikan, a female professor of social anthropology at the University of Oslo, said:
“Norwegian women must take their share of responsibility for these rapes,” because Muslim men found their manner of dress provocative. The professor’s conclusion was not that Muslim men living in the West needed to adjust to Western norms, but the exact opposite: “Norwegian women must realize that we live in a Multicultural society and adapt themselves to it.”
So much for the feminist claim that women are free to dress and behave as promiscuously and provocatively as they want — and woe to the man who dares cite this as justifying male sexual aggression. Apparently, this feminist refrain does not apply to Muslim men.
And who can forget when Muslim migrant mobs sexually assaulted as many as one thousand women on New Year’s Eve 2016 in Cologne, Germany? Then, the city’s mayor, Henriette Reker, called on the women — the victims, not their male abusers — to make changes: “women and young girls … should go out and have fun, but they need to be better prepared, especially with the Cologne carnival coming up. For this, we will publish online guidelines that these young women can read through to prepare themselves.”
In yet another instance, seven Muslim migrants raped a teenage German girl in a park, after drugging her at a disco in Freiburg. (She at least survived; in a similar case that occurred a week earlier in Italy, the drugged rape victim was left murdered.) Bernhard Rotzinger, the police chief of Freiburg, responded by saying, “We cannot offer citizens an all-risk insurance [against crime], but I can advise this: don’t make yourself vulnerable by using alcohol or drugs.”
“Advice” against alcohol, drugs, and reckless behavior would be much more welcome had it not been made under duress. As things stand, it is a cop-out. Or, as another report discussing the aforementioned rape in Freiburg puts it, “[t]he focus on prevention is a good thing, but also shows how German authorities and media barely hold the migrant crisis responsible for the disaster that is unfolding in Germany. Political correctness has caused officials to put the blame for the criminal acts on the women instead of Merkel’s guests.”
The greater irony of all these excuses is that, from the very start of Islam 14 centuries ago, European women — even completely continent nuns — have always been portrayed by Muslims as sexually promiscuous by nature, and how they dressed had nothing to do with it. This article discusses the historic roots of this phenomenon. Modern-day examples indicating that this motif is still alive and well follow:
A British woman was trafficked to Morocco, where she was prostituted and repeatedly raped by dozens of Muslim men. They “made me believe I was nothing more than a slut, a white whore,” she recollected. “They treated me like a leper, apart from when they wanted sex. I was less than human to them, I was rubbish.”
Another British girl was “passed around like a piece of meat” among Muslim men who abused and raped her between the ages of 12 and 14. Speaking recently as an adult, a court heard how she “was raped on a dirty mattress above a takeaway and forced to perform [fellatio] in a churchyard,” and how one of her abusers “urinated on her in an act of humiliation” afterward.
A Muslim man explained to another British woman why he was raping her: “you white women are good at it.”
A Muslim man called a 13-year-old virgin “a little white slag” — British slang for “loose, promiscuous woman” — before raping her.
In Germany, a group of Muslim migrants stalked a 25-year-old woman, hurled “filthy” insults at her, and taunted her for sex. They too explained their logic — “German girls are just there for sex” — before reaching into her blouse and groping her.
Another Muslim man who almost killed his 25-year-old German victim while raping her — and shouting “Allah!” — afterward inquired if she liked it.
In Australia, a Muslim cabbie groped and insulted his female passengers, including by saying, “All Australian women are sluts and deserve to be raped.”
In Austria, an “Arabic-looking man” approached a 27-year-old woman at a bus stop, pulled down his pants, and “all he could say was sex, sex, sex,” prompting the woman to scream and flee.
In short, the ancient Islamic motif concerning the alleged promiscuity of European women is alive and well — irrespective of the latter’s behavior or dress — and continues to drive the Muslim rape of Western women.
Yet, even in this, Islam can turn to those “progressive,” godless elements that dominate Western society for cover. For, just as “the left” has worked long and hard to portray Islamic intolerance, violence, and terrorism as the West’s fault — because of the Crusades, because of colonialism, because of cartoons, because of Israel, because of freedom of speech — it now adds and legitimizes Islam’s worldview concerning Western promiscuity to the list of reasons that “provoke” Muslims to attack.

In California, home to the largest number of Afghan refugees in the country, school officials are preparing for an influx of students who fled Afghanistan with their families after the Taliban seized power in the country last month.
Schools are especially busy in Sacramento and Fremont, which have two of the largest Afghan communities in the state. Over 40% of the nation’s Afghan refugees have resettled in the Sacramento region in recent years, according to Jessie Tientcheu, chief executive officer of Opening Doors, a resettlement agency based in Sacramento.
Elk Grove Unified School District began offering culturally appropriate meals and setting aside rooms in many of its middle and high schools for prayer during Muslim holidays in preparation for the additional Afghan students it expects in the next month. San Juan Unified is offering Saturday school for English learners, and Fremont Unified is planning to hire more translators.
The left wing Women’s March has just scored a major victory. As we all know, its founder, Linda Sarsour, wants the U.S. to adopt Sharia law. Well, a Texas judge just ruled that a woman getting a divorce must go by Sharia law, where a woman’s testimony counts only half has much as a man’s. I hope the left is happy.

Linda Sarsour, who was born in Brooklyn, New York, made four tweets in favor of the U.S. adopting Sharia law.
Sarsour made this tweet, which says the following:
“10 weeks of PAID maternity leave in Saudi Arabia. Yes PAID. And ur worrying about women driving. Puts us to shame.”
She also made this tweet, which says:
“shariah law is reasonable and once u read into the details it makes a lot of sense. People just know the basics”
and this tweet, which says:
“You’ll know when you’re living under Sharia Law if suddenly all your loans & credit cards become interest free. Sound nice, doesn’t it?”
and this tweet, which says:
“If you are still paying interest than Sharia Law hasn’t taken over America.”
These statements prove that Sarsour wants the U.S. to adopt Sharia law.
Sharia law bans women from driving cars, prohibits women from appearing alone in public, calls for girls to have their genitals mutilated, and gives a woman’s testimony in court only half the value of a man’s.
After Sarsour made those four tweets in favor of the U.S. adopting Sharia law, left wing American feminists chose her to be one of the organizers of the 2017 Women’s March.
Now in 2021, a Texas judge has ruled that a woman getting a divorce must go by Sharia law, where a woman’s testimony counts only half has much as a man’s. I hope the left is happy.

A Texas judge earlier this year ordered that a Muslim woman seeking a divorce appear before a tribunal governed by Sharia, a move that her lawyers said was unconstitutional.
In March, Collin County District Judge Andrea Thompson ordered that Mariam Ayad, a woman attempting to divorce her husband, Ayad Hashim Latif, forgo the usual legal paths and instead submit to arbitration under a Fiqh panel, governed by a traditional Muslim group based in Saudi Arabia. Thompson’s reasoning rested on a prenuptial agreement between the two in which Ayad agreed to allow her marriage to be arbitrated according to Sharia.
Ayad said that when she signed the document, she did not realize that she was submitting to Sharia, according to court documents. Instead, she said she thought she was signing two copies of a marriage acknowledgment form. Under Sharia, a woman’s testimony in divorce proceedings is worth half of a man’s, making her plea to be removed from that agreement especially urgent, her attorneys wrote.
Ayad argued that she should be released from the agreement because she did not sign it voluntarily and because the agreement itself violates the due process clause of the Fifth Amendment. Under the agreement, her husband has the sole right to seek or deny a divorce and Ayad “will not have a meaningful right to be heard,” her attorneys wrote.
Thompson, however, ruled in March that the agreement was binding. A revised order in June reaffirmed that decision, but it removed explicit references to the Fiqh panel, according to court documents. Under the order, Ayad’s divorce case falls under the jurisdiction of the Islamic Association of North Texas, one of the largest Muslim groups in the state.
Thompson did not respond to a request for comment.
Ayad’s attorneys took the case to a Texas appeals court, arguing that the Sharia proceedings are in direct conflict with United States divorce law. The agreement itself, they added, is “unconscionable” and in opposition to Texas law as well.

Kobili Traoré killed an Orthodox Jewish woman in 2018 by throwing her off her balcony in Paris.
France’s top court has ruled that he will not go on trial because he was in a drug-induced psychosis.
Cannabis was found in Traoré’s blood after he was taken into custody for the killing.
France’s top court ruled on Wednesday that the killer of an elderly Jewish woman will not go on trial, France24 reported.
Kobili Traoré admitted to murdering his neighbor, Sarah Halimi, in 2017. He shouted “Allahu Akbar,” or “God is great” in Arabic, and “I killed the devil,” shortly before throwing her off the balcony of her third-floor Paris apartment, The New York Times said.
On Wednesday, the Court of Cassation – France’s final court of appeal – affirmed two prior judgments that ruled that Traoré could not be held criminally responsible for his actions because he was in a state of drug-induced psychosis.
Traoré, a drug dealer, smoked pot every day for 13 years and had up to 15 joints a day, Israel Hayom reported. Toxicological analysis revealed the presence of cannabis in his blood on the day he was arrested, the French newspaper Libération said.
The court noted that “a person is not criminally responsible if suffering, at the time of the event, from psychic or neuropsychic disturbance that has eliminated all discernment or control,” The Times said.
Whether the disturbance was brought on through voluntary drug use is not a legally important distinction, the court said.
In December 2019, President Emmanuel Macron made a rare intervention by criticizing the Paris appeals court for saying that Traore was unfit for trial.
“Even if, in the end, the judge decided that there was no criminal responsibility, there is a need for a trial,” Macron said in 2020.
The country’s top magistrates then criticized Macron for impacting the “independence of the justice system,” The Times of Israel reported.
The ruling has angered French politicians and France’s Jewish community, the largest in Europe.
Dozens of French senators have reacted by proposing a revision to the law that exonerates a crime due to a drug-induced psychosis, The New York Times said.

A Minneapolis neighborhood, which lies in controversial Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar’s district, will begin broadcasting the Muslim call to prayer five times a day over outdoor loudspeakers throughout the month of Ramadan, reports say.
The move is “believed to be the first publicly-broadcast call to prayer in a major US city,” al Jazeera English said in a post on Twitter.
The simple, short call – known as the adhan – marked an historical moment for Minneapolis and major cities across the United States, community members said. While the adhan is commonly broadcast throughout the Middle East, North Africa and other places, for many Muslims in the US, it is only heard inside mosques or community centres.
“There’s definitely a lot of excitement,” said Imam Abdisalam Adam, who is on the board of the Dar al-Hijrah mosque, from where the adhan will be broadcast.
“Some people see it as historic,” Adam told Al Jazeera. “To the point … that they’re not doing it, able to see it in their lifetime.”
The city granted a noise permit for the prayer.
“Tonight’s historic call to prayer in Minneapolis will bring comfort and remind the faithful and the neighborhood that as we are physically distant we can still be connected to our faith and mosque,” Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) Executive Director Jaylani Hussein said in a statement.
“The call to prayer is being issued via an amplified public address system on the rooftop of the Dar Al-Hijrah Mosque in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood,” Biz Pac Review reported. “According to the Sahan Journal, the P.A. system and technical support necessary for the community-wide vocal calls were provided by First Avenue (a famous nightclub and music venue that became a national landmark of sorts after Prince used it as a location for several scenes in the movie “Purple Rain”). The city of Minneapolis issued a noise permit for the calls to prayer that start at sunrise and end at sunset.”
Cedar-Riverside is a neighborhood that in recent years has become one of the most densely populated areas of Islamic immigrants in the country, principally coming from Somalia and Ethiopia. It was in that neighborhood that two years ago, a group of Muslims was reported to be patrolling the area, confronting people who were not following tenets of Sharia law.
Locals have for years called the area “Little Mogadishu” and it is known to have been a recruiting ground for Islamic terrorists.
Some residents were not happy.
“Pathetic! People can’t go to church or sit in their cars and listen to the gospel, but this….Unf***ing believable,” one person wrote on Twitter.
“Yes! It is not ok for Christians to pray over loud speakers. Something to do with our constitution and not pushing another religion on to another. If we do it’s a guarantee law suit from the Islamic Terrorist org, CAIR. Nuts, right!?” wrote another.

A story of rampant child abuse—ignored and abetted by the police—is emerging out of the British town of Rotherham. Until now, its scale and scope would have been inconceivable in a civilized country. Its origins, however, lie in something quite ordinary: what one Labour MP called “not wanting to rock the multicultural community boat.”
Imagine the following case. A fourteen-year old girl is taken into care by the social services unit of the town where she lives, because her parents are drug-addicted, and she has been neglected and is not turning up in school. She is one of many, for that is the way in Britain today. And local government entities—Councils—can be ordered by the courts to stand in for parents of neglected children. The Council places the girl in a home, where she is kept with others under supervision from the social services department. The home is regularly visited by young men who try to entice the girls into their cars, so as to give them drugs and alcohol, and then coerce them into sex.
The girl, who is lonely and uncared for, meets a man outside the home, who promises a trip to the cinema and a party with children of her age. She falls into the trap. After she has been raped by a group of five men she is told that, if she says a word to anyone, she will be taken from the home and beaten. When, after the episode is repeated, she threatens to go to the police, she is taken into the countryside, doused in petrol, and told that she is going to be set alight, unless she promises to tell no one of the ordeal.
Social workers tell girls they cannot help them
Meanwhile she must accept weekly abuse, in return for drugs and alcohol. Soon she finds herself being taken to other towns in the area, and hired out for sexual purposes to other men. She is distraught and depressed, and at the point when she can stand it no longer, she goes to the police. She can only stutter a few words, and cannot bring herself to accuse anyone in particular. Her complaint is dismissed on the grounds that any sex involved must have been consensual. The social worker in charge of her case listens to her complaint, but tells her that she cannot act unless the girl identifies her abusers. But when the girl describes them the social worker switches off with a shrug and says that she can do nothing. Her father, his drug habit notwithstanding, has tried to keep contact with his daughter and suspects what is happening. But when he goes to the police, he is arrested for obstruction and charged with wasting police time.
Over the two years of her ordeal the girl makes several attempts on her own life, and eventually ends up abandoned and homeless, without an education and with no prospect of a normal life.
Impossible, you will say, that such a thing could happen in Britain. In fact it is only one of over 1,400 cases, all arising during the course of the last fifteen years in the South Yorkshire town of Rotherham, all involving vulnerable girls either in Council care or inadequately protected by their families from gangs of sexual predators. Almost no arrests have been made, no social workers or police officers have been reprimanded, and until recently the matter was dismissed by all those responsible as a matter of no real significance. Increasing public awareness of the problem, however, led to complaints, triggering a series of official reports. The latest report, from Professor Alexis Jay, former chief inspector of social work in Scotland, gives the truth for the first time, in 153 disturbing pages. One fact stands out above all the horrors detailed in the document, which is that the girl victims were white, and their abusers Pakistani.
Sociologists convinced government that the police are racist
Fifteen years ago, when these crimes were just beginning, the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry into the conduct of the British police was made by Sir William Macpherson a High Court judge. The immediate occasion had been a murder in which the victim was black, the perpetrators white, and the behaviour of the investigating police lax and possibly prejudiced. The report accused the police – not just those involved in the case, but the entire police force of the country – of ‘institutionalised racism’. This piece of sociological newspeak was, at the time, very popular with leftist sociologists. For it made an accusation which could not be refuted by anyone who had the misfortune to be accused of it.
However well you behaved, however scrupulously you treated people of different races and without regard to their ethnic identity or the colour of their skin, you would be guilty of ‘institutionalised racism’, simply on account of the institution to which you belonged and on behalf of which you were acting. Not surprisingly, sociologists and social workers, the vast majority of whom are professionally disposed to believe that middle class society is incurably racist, latched on to the expression. MacPherson too climbed onto the bandwagon since, at the time, it was the easiest and safest way to wash your hands in public, to say that I, at least, am not guilty of the only crime that is universally recognised and everywhere in evidence.
Police more concerned with political correctness than crime
The result of this has been that police forces lean over backwards to avoid the accusation of racism, while social workers will hesitate to intervene in any case in which they could be accused of discriminating against ethnic minorities. Matters are made worse by the rise of militant Islam, which has added to the old crime of racism the new crime of ‘Islamophobia’. No social worker today will risk being accused of this crime. In Rotherham a social worker would be mad, and a police officer barely less so, to set out to investigate cases of suspected sexual abuse, when the perpetrators are Asian Muslims and the victims ethnically English. Best to sweep it under the carpet, find ways of accusing the victims or their parents or the surrounding culture of institutionalised racism, and attending to more urgent matters such as the housing needs of recent immigrants, or the traffic offences committed by those racist middle classes.
Americans too are familiar with this syndrome. Political correctness among sociologists comes from socialist convictions and the tired old theories that produce them. But among ordinary people it comes from fear. The people of Rotherham know that it is unsafe for a girl to take a taxi-ride from someone with Asian features; they know that Pakistani Muslims often do not treat white girls with the respect that they treat girls from their own community. They know, and have known over fifteen years, that there are gangs of predators on the look-out for vulnerable girls, and that the gangs are for the most part Asian young men who see English society not as the community to which they belong, but as a sexual hunting ground. But they dare not express this knowledge, in either words or deed. Still less do they dare to do so if their job is that of social worker or police officer. Let slip the mere hint that Pakistani Muslims are more likely than indigenous Englishmen to commit sexual crimes and you will be branded as a racist and an Islamophobe, to be ostracised in the workplace and put henceforth under observation.
No one will be fired
This would matter less if fear had no consequences. Unfortunately political correctness causes people not merely to disguise their beliefs but to refuse to act on them, to accuse others who confess to them, and in general to go along with policies that have been forced on the British people by minority groups of activists. The intention of the activists is to disrupt and dismantle the old forms of social order. They believe that our society is not just racist, but far too comfortable, far too unequal, far too bound up with fuddy-duddy old ways that are experienced by people at the bottom of society – the working classes, the immigrants, the homeless, the illegals – as oppressive and demeaning. They enthusiastically propagate the doctrines of political correctness as a way of taking revenge on a social order from which they feel alienated.
Ordinary people are so intimidated by this that they repeat the doctrines, like religious mantras which they hope will keep them safe in hostile territory. Hence people in Britain have accepted without resistance the huge transformations that have been inflicted on them over the last thirty years, largely by activists working through the Labour Party. They have accepted immigration policies that have filled our cities with disaffected Muslims, many of whom have now gone to fight against us in Syria and Iraq. They have accepted the growth of Islamic schools in which children are taught to prepare themselves for jihad against the surrounding social order. They have accepted the constant denigration of their country, its institutions and its inherited religion, for the simple reason that these things are theirs and therefore tainted with forbidden loyalties.
And when the truth is expressed at last, nobody is fired, no arrests are made, and the elected Police and Communities Commissioner for Rotherham, although forced to resign from the Labour Party, refuses to resign from his job. After a few weeks all will have been swept under the carpet, and the work of destruction can resume.
An American woman named Bethany Vierra got a masters degree in Middle Eastern studies and a PhD in human rights, moved to Saudi Arabia, was shocked to discover that women didn’t have the same rights as men, and falsely claimed, “The problem here is not Islamic law”
Bethany Vierra was born in Washington state.
She got a master’s degree in Middle Eastern studies from the American University in Paris.
Then she got a PhD in human rights at the National University of Ireland.
With such an education, I would think that Vierra would be aware that women in Saudi Arabia didn’t have the same rights as men, and that this lack of equal rights was due to the country following Islamic law.
But I would be wrong.
Vierra moved to Saudi Arabia, married a Saudi Arabian man, and later gave birth – while in Saudi Arabia – to their daughter.
Since doing those things, Vierra and her husband have gotten a divorce, and are now involved in a custody dispute over their daughter.

Vierra was also surprised to find out that she was not allowed to leave Saudi Arabia or to access her own bank account, without her ex-husband’s permission.
During the custody dispute, some of the evidence that was used against Vierra were photographs which showed that she had worn a bikini in public, had worn yoga pants in public, and had had her hair uncovered in public.
And Vierra said of this:
“The problem here is not Islamic law.”
Relative to their level of education, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone as dumb as Bethany Vierra.

After Sarsour made those four tweets in favor of the U.S. adopting Sharia law, left wing American feminists chose her to be one of the organizers of the 2017 Women’s March.
But any movement which truly cared about women’s rights would not support someone who wants the U.S. to treat women in such a horrible and repulsive manner.
I will say one positive thing about Sarsour: even though Sarsour claims to believe in Sharia law, and says that women in Saudi Arabia are better off than women in the U.S., at least she is not dumb enough to actually move to Saudi Arabia.

This is an insult to both marijuana users and people with mental health issues, neither of which would be a lone cause of violence and the desire to murder a 65 year old Jewish woman. Traore’s desire to practice jihad is the only cause of her death.
A leading French Jewish organization said on Friday that it had “learned with consternation” that the man accused of murdering Jewish pensioner Sarah Halimi in April 2017 will not face a criminal trial.
In a statement carried by the Jewish publication Alliance, the BNVCA — a Paris-based group that works with victims of antisemitic attacks — said that the investigating magistrate in the Halimi case had concluded that the murderer, Kobili Traore, was heavily intoxicated on marijuana when he committed the killing, and mentally unfit to stand trial.
The BNVCA did not disclose its source for this information, which was unreported in the French media on Friday.
Referring to the numerous political and legal obstacles encountered by the Halimi family in their fight for justice over two years, the BNVCA said that it had “sensed from the beginning of the investigation that this crime would go unpunished.”
Halimi, 65-years-old at the time of her death, was subjected to a frenzied beating and then hurled from a third-floor window in the early hours of Apr. 4, 2017, by Traore, a neighbor in the same public housing project in eastern Paris who broke into her apartment.
Terrified neighbors who alerted police after hearing her cries for help reported that Traore had shouted the words, “Allahu Akhbar,” and, “Shaitan” (Arabic for “Satan”), during Halimi’s ordeal.
Police investigations later revealed that Halimi had told relatives that she was scared of Traore, who insulted her visiting daughter as a “dirty Jewess” a few weeks before the murder.
Traore’s lawyers, however, have insisted throughout that their client was too intoxicated from his ingestion of cannabis to be held responsible for his actions. On March 20, a third psychiatric report commissioned by the investigating judge in the Halimi case concurred with this assessment, arguing that Traore’s consumption of cannabis had eliminated his “discernment” (a clinical term for “judgment”).
In its statement, the BNVCA pointed out the “paradox that a driver under the influence of alcohol has his sentence heavily aggravated, and a drug user is exonerated.”
The group added that it was now “very pessimistic about the real possibilities of eradicating antisemitism when the culprits are neither tried nor sentenced.”
It concluded: “We fear that this decision will encourage other so-called mentally ill people to commit other anti-Jewish crimes.”
The BNVCA’s announcement came two weeks after magistrate Anne Ihuellou announced the end of her investigations into the murder, setting off concerned speculation among observers of the Halimi case that Traore would escape a criminal trial.

UK middle school teaches students about different religions. But the school’s act of brainwashing its students is only being done with Islam.
A middle school in the UK is teaching its students about different religions. I think that’s a good thing.
However, there is one aspect of this that is only being applied to one religion, and not to others. Specifically, the school has assigned its students to write a letter to their families about converting to Islam. But the school has not handed out this same assignment for any other religion.
As is often the case, the political left is trying to force Islam on to people against their will.
And in this particular case, they’re doing this to children, who are innocent and naive, and may have no idea what is being done to them.

Liberal PAC Targeting #MeToo-Accused Politicians Only Targets Republicans, Gives Prominent Democrats A Pass

A liberal PAC affiliated with Women’s March is targeting political candidates accused of #MeToo-related misconduct.
The PAC appears to only be going after Republican candidates and includes zero Democrats on its list of targeted candidates.
Four prominent Democrats aren’t on the PAC’s list despite accusations of abuse, harassment or covering up sexual misconduct .
A political action committee (PAC) affiliated with Women’s March is targeting 2018 political candidates accused of sexual misconduct, harassment or other offenses against women.
But so far the PAC’s list of targeted candidates only includes Republicans and excludes several prominent Democrats accused of sexual misconduct, domestic abuse or covering up harassment.
The Enough Is Enough Voter Project launched on Monday to “end a culture that protects the careers of powerful men who abuse women or other survivors, and put this issue before the voters,” Stanford Law School professor Michele Dauber said in an announcement on Monday.
Dauber, who specializes in feminist, gender and sexuality studies, launched the PAC in coordination with the Women’s March Sister Network and Feminist Majority, a pair of left-wing nonprofits.
“We are going to put rape culture on the ballot across the country,” Dauber said.
Dauber’s group has currently singled out five candidates, two at the congressional level and three at the state level, for defeat in the 2018 elections. All five are Republicans.
One targeted candidate, Minnesota Rep. Jason Lewis, has not been accused of abuse or sexual misconduct, or of covering either abuse or misconduct. Lewis is on the list because he “has a long history of making misogynistic and demeaning statements about women,” Dauber’s group explains.
North Carolina congressional candidate Steve Von Loor is on the list because his ex-wife accused him of domestic abuse, including verbal abuse and pushing her, according to Enough Is Enough.
Left off of the PAC’s list are at least four prominent Democrats accused of either abuse, sexual misconduct or covering up misconduct.
Delaware Sen. Tom Carper admitted in a 1998 interview that he slapped his ex-wife in the face, leaving her with a black eye. Carper is up for re-election in November and won the party’s nomination on Sept. 6.
Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, the Democratic nominee for Minnesota attorney general, has been accused of emotional or physical abuse by two women.
One of those women, Karen Monahan, said Ellison was also physically abusive. She released a medical document on Sept. 19 showing she told her doctor in Nov. 2017 about Ellison’s alleged and physical abuse.
Ellison, the deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee, denies the allegations against him.
California congressional candidate Gil Cisneros was accused of sexual harassment by a fellow Democrat. UltraViolet, a left-wing feminist organization, previously slammed the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for not withdrawing its support of Cisneros.
New York Rep. Gregory Meeks, who is running for re-election, was accused of firing one of his staffers after she reported being sexually harassed by one of his campaign donors. The House used taxpayer dollars to settle the staffer’s lawsuit against Meeks.
All four Democrats denied the allegations against them.
“Although we did not target any Dems during this general cycle, we plan to do so during the next primary season. In addition if you watch the video that rolls on our main page you will see many dems who are featured there, including Sawyer, Persky, Daylin Leach and Eric Schneiderman,” Dauber said in an email to TheDCNF after this article was published.
When asked why her group would only target Democratic politicians in primaries — but not general elections — next cycle, Dauber replied: “We think that’s the best way to achieve our goals at this time given the limited resources of a start-up.”

Mohamed Noor is the Minneapolis police officer who recently shot and killed an innocent, unarmed, law abiding woman named Justine Damond, after Damond had called 911 to report that she had heard a possible sexual assault taking place near her home.
Officer Moor has not offered any explanation for his actions. He is not claiming self defense.

A German judge has acquitted a Turkish man of rape, despite the fact that he forced a woman to have sex with him, and left her incapacitated. The judge argued that in “the mentality of the Turkish cultural circle,” what the woman “had experienced as rape” might be considered merely “wild sex.” The judge refused to convict the rapist, because “no intention is demonstrable.”
According to the German daily newspaper Märkische Allgemeine (forgive the weak translation from Google Translate), the judge told the woman, “I believe Mrs. G. every word,” but added that “her tormentor probably did not know what he was doing to her.” On the night of August 18, 2016, the 23-year-old Turkish man sold drugs to the young woman and they consumed speed together.
He asked her to “go to bed with her” and she refused. According to the report, she had said he was “not her type.” But the drug dealer forced himself on her. Here’s how the paper described the encounter:
The young drug trader then complimented his customer, dragged her by the arm, threw her on the bed and pulled her out. He shoved his shoulders firmly against the metal bars at the head of his bed, his head jammed between two of them. The woman cried “stop” and resisted by scratching the accused at the back. But at some point she gave up and let her go as she put it. Several times he had entered her, the whole ordeal ended after four hours, when he got a call and suddenly had to leave, so that she too could go.
She refused, cried “stop” after he had grabbed her, and then finally she gave up. To most people, that sounds like rape. Indeed, the German paper reported that the Turkish man “carried on the sexual intercourse for hours on end so badly” that the girl could “not run properly for the next two weeks.”
“On the one hand, the magistrate’s court believed the victim, and on the other hand, the accused, according to which the wild sex was amicable,” the Märkische Allgemeine reported. Amicable? When the girl could not even run properly “for the next two weeks”?!
According to the report, the decisive question was “Could it be that the defendant thought you were in agreement?” To this, the poor girl — who had given up struggling after she had been raped — said “that could be.”
“She could not judge whether, with the mentality of the Turkish cultural circle, he had thought the happenings she experienced as rape might have been for wild sex,” the paper reported. “A conviction is not possible, because no intention is demonstrable.”
In other words, the judge acquitted a rapist — whom the court had “no doubt” forced the victim to have sex with him — on the grounds that his culture might not have considered the sex — which left the girl unable to run for two weeks — to be rape.
Oh, and of course, the defendant “denied from the beginning that he had raped” the girl. His defense? “He would not do such a thing, especially since he himself had a mother and a sister.” That clinches it! What American court would buy this shoddy defense?
According to the Märkische Allgemeine, “rape causes relatively few convictions before German courts.” The paper cited a 2012 study showing that only 8.4 percent of men accused of rape were convicted.
The percentage of conviction is not in itself proof that the court system is too lax on rapists. (That argument has been used to push for rape findings and expulsions against countless American college men despite evidence that no rape has occurred.) But this case seems rather clear-cut, and the “cultural” defense laughable, if it weren’t so tragic.
Unfortunately, this is far from the first time Germany has faced a rape crisis. On New Year’s Eve 2016, more than 1,200 women were sexually assaulted in various German cities, and authorities linked the sexual assaults to the influx of refugees. German politicians refused to speak out about these heinous crimes, perhaps due to fear of offending Muslims.
The problem with this strategy is that by turning a blind eye to violent rapists in order to avoid offending Muslims, liberals end up alienating the Muslims who do condemn rape, and want to see fewer rapes in their own communities.
Acquitting this Turkish man of rape sends the message that foreigners, or refugees, or Muslims, can claim their culture interprets forced sex as “wild sex.” Not only does this condone rape, but it also might endanger women in Muslim communities, thus hurting the very people liberals are so afraid of offending.

A 70-year-old Swedish woman is facing up to four years in prison for complaining on Facebook about migrants defecating in the streets.

She’s being dragged into court and threatened with jail for a two year old Facebook post which is factually correct.
While the Western media and leftist “human rights” groups will whine about attacks on free speech in places like China and Russia, in Sweden and Germany they’re throwing people in prison for writing “anti-migrant” Facebook posts.

A Sheffield-based Muslim radio station has had its license suspended after broadcasting 25 hours of sermons “encouraging and condoning” violence against non-Muslims.
Ofcom investigated Iman FM after a complaint that the radio station had, during Ramadan, aired lectures by Anwar Al-Awlaki, an influential cleric killed by a U.S. drone strike in 2011.
The broadcasting watchdog said it had “serious concerns” over Iman FM’s decision to air the series of pre-recorded lectures by a “widely-known terrorist leader and al-Qaeda recruiter.”
The material “amounted to a direct call to action to members of the Muslim community to prepare for and carry out violent action against non-Muslim people,” according to Ofcom, which suspended the community radio station’s license and gave managers 21 days to explain themselves or have the channel shut down.
Ofcom further stated that the cumulative effect of al-Awlaki’s statements in the lectures broadcast would “condone, promote and encourage violent behaviour towards non-Muslim people,” the Star reported.
“Further, the lectures appeared to link violent acts of the past with actions that might potentially be taken today,” judged the regulator, taking the view that the content therefore amounted to a call to action which was likely to encourage or incite the commission of crime or lead to disorder.”
Bosses at Iman FM, the mission statement of which is “equipping the generation towards a cohesive society”, admitted to having downloaded and broadcast Awlaki’s lectures during Ramadan, but claimed to be unaware of the hate preacher’s background.
The station said it had listened to 12 hours of the audio, which it “judged to be within the parameters [of the Broadcasting Code]”, but only samples of the remainder were checked because of time constraints.
The Ofcom ruling described this defence as ‘not credible’.
Iman FM’s chief executive Mohammad Mughal told the Daily Mail: “This is very, very sad because none of us had any idea this lecture was preaching hatred.”
A petition has been set up “in support of IMAN FM being allowed to carry on with its radio broadcasts and for Ofcom not to revoke its license,” on Change.org in response to the radio station’s suspension from air.
“As listeners we have never had any cause of complain [sic] against IMAN fm and the content has always been exemplary,” says the plea, which has been signed by nearly 300 people.

The Muslim attackers were screaming “This is for Allah,” but CNN doesn’t know their motives. For CNN and the rest of the establishment propaganda media, “This is for Allah” means “This has nothing to do with Islam.”

(CNN) Details were emerging in the early hours of the United Kingdom’s Sunday morning about what we now know are two “terrorist incidents” in central London….
At 10:08 p.m. Saturday night, London Metropolitan officers responded to reports of a vehicle colliding with pedestrians on London Bridge.
Witness Mark Roberts said he said saw a van speeding across London Bridge towards London Bridge underground station, which suddenly swerved, bounced off the pavement and hit several pedestrians. He said he heard what sounded like gunfire about five to 10 minutes later.
Another witness, Brad Myers, had just left London Bridge when he heard a “boom” behind him, which he thinks was the sound of a car hitting the guardrails or other vehicles. He said he saw someone jump into the water to avoid being hit.
Multiple ambulances were sent to the scene with the first team arriving within six minutes, according to the London Ambulance Service. An advanced trauma team was also sent by car.
As emergency services rushed to respond, reports came in of multiple stabbings at Borough Market, a popular gourmet food market with restaurants that were open and busy on a Saturday night.
Witness Elsbeth Smedley told CNN that a man ran into Elliot restaurant in Borough Market, and stabbed two people before running out.
As they responded to the two incidents, police were then called to a third potential attack — reports of an “incident” in nearby Vauxhall, a residential area, which occurred just before 1 a.m. (8p ET). Police confirmed it was not related.
At 00.25 a.m., police announced the two incidents at London Bridge and Borough Market were “terrorist incidents.” People were warned to avoid the area while emergency vehicles attended to the incidents which police described as “ongoing.”
British Prime Minister Theresa May calls the London Bridge incident a “potential act of terrorism.” On Sunday, she’ll chair a meeting of the government’s Cobra emergency committee.
What we don’t know
How many attackers there were, their motives and whether they were acting together are all questions being asked.
The proximity of the attacks and the timing seem to suggest they were coordinated, but police have not confirmed that….

Andy Burnham insisted people should not turn on the Muslim community in the aftermath of the Manchester terror attack.
Salman Abedi killed 22 people, including children as young as 8, when he detonated a suicide bomb outside the Manchester Arena on Monday night.
He was born and raised in Manchester to Libyan parents and worshipped in a mosque in Didsbury, not stopped going because the imam was speaking out against ISIS.
But the Mayor of Manchester insisted that this man was a terrorist who had noting to do with Islam.
Speaking to Nick Ferrari on LBC, he said: “Manchester always reacts in the right way and we did that last night. People came together.
“The message that I would want to get over – and this is how the vast majority of people feel – this man was a terrorist, not a Muslim.”
“He does not represent the Muslim community. We’ve got to keep that distinction in mind all the time. This was an unspeakable act.”
“The worst thing that can happen is that people use this to blame an entire community, the Muslim community.”
“In my view, the man who committed this atrocity no more represents the Muslim community than the individual who murdered my friend Jo Cox represents the white, Christian community.”
