Dashcam video proves that journalism professor was lying when she said police stopped her for “walking while black”

By Daniel Alman (aka Dan from Squirrel Hill)

March 29, 2016

I’d like to think that a journalism professor would be very much interested in telling the truth, and very much against lying.

However, that’s not always the case.

In October 2015, professor Dorothy Bland, the dean of the Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism and the director for the Frank W. Mayborn Graduate Institute of Journalism at the University of North Texas, wrote this column for the Dallas Morning News, where she claimed that the police had stopped her for “walking while black.”

However, a dashcam recording (shown below) proved that the police stopped her because she had been walking in the street, in the same direction of traffic, and blocking traffic, all while wearing earbuds, even though there were sidewalks on both sides of the street.

The police expressed concern for her safety.

Since blocking traffic is a misdemeanor, they asked for her ID.

Since she was wearing a hoodie, long sleeves, and long pants, and the police approached her from behind, the police could not have known her race before they stopped her.

Corinth Police Chief Debra Walthall said the police in the video handled the situation so well that she would start using the video to train police about the importance of using their dashcams.

Please keep in mind that professor Bland is a journalism professor. She teaches journalism students, who then go on to become journalists, news writers, and news reporters. How many hundreds, or even thousands, of these journalists, news writers, and news reporters have been brainwashed by professor Bland’s insistence on seeing racism in situations where there actually is no racism? And then, how many thousands, or even millions, of readers and viewers of these journalists, news writers, and news reporters will go on to unknowingly and falsely believe that racism exists in situations where it actually does not exist?

Video: San Francisco State University employee assaults white student for wearing dreadlocks

This is from yesterday at San Francisco State University.

A black female employee grabs a white male student, tries to stop him from walking, and criticizes him for wearing dreadlocks. Then she falsely accuses him of grabbing her (even though it was the other way around), and asks why everything is being filmed.

Obama administration said it “would welcome” an Islamic dictatorship onto the United Nations’ Human Rights Council

In 2010, Freedom House included Saudi Arabia on its list of “the world’s most repressive societies.”

On page 17 of this PDF, Freedom House wrote the following about Saudi Arabia:

Saudi Arabia is not an electoral democracy.

The country’s 1992 Basic Law declares that the Koran and the Sunna (the guidance set by the deeds and sayings of the prophet Muhammad) are the country’s constitution.

Political parties are forbidden, and organized political opposition exists only outside of the country.

The government tightly controls the content of domestic media and dominates regional print and satellite television coverage. Government officials have banned journalists and editors who publish articles deemed offensive to the ruling authorities or the country’s powerful religious establishment. The regime has blocked access to over 400,000 websites that are considered immoral or politically sensitive.

Religious freedom does not exist in Saudi Arabia. All Saudis are required by law to be Muslims, and the government prohibits the public practice of any religions other than Islam.

Women are not treated as equal members of society, and many laws discriminate against them. They may not legally drive cars, their use of public facilities is restricted when men are present, and they cannot travel within or outside of the country without a male relative.

However, in September 2015, after Saudi Arabia was put onto the United Nations’ Human Rights Council, U.S. State Department spokesman Mark Toner said

“… we would welcome it.”

Here are three major differences between Obama’s “Operation Fast and Furious” and Bush’s “Operation Wide Receiver”

Bush and Obama each had a program where the U.S. government put guns into the hands of Mexican criminals. Bush’s program was called “Operation Wide Receiver,” and Obama’s program was called “Operation Fast and Furious.” However, there were three major differences between the two programs:

First, Bush’s program was carried out with the knowledge, permission, and cooperation of the Mexican government, whereas Obama’s program was not. Mexican attorney general Marisela Morales told the Los Angeles Times that she first learned about Obama’s program from the news, and said, “In no way would we have allowed it, because it is an attack on the safety of Mexicans.”

Secondly, many of the guns used in Bush’s program contained radio tracking devices, whereas most of the guns used in Obama’s program did not. In addition, under Bush’s program, U.S. federal agents followed the guns to see whose hands they ended up in, whereas with Obama’s program, U.S. federal agents were ordered not to do this.

Third, Bush’s program did not cause any known deaths, whereas Obama’s program did.

Insane Republicans in North Carolina just passed a law which requires this person to use the women’s bathroom

It looks like the insane Republican lawmakers in North Carolina have consumed even more bat guano than they normally do. They just passed a law that requires the person in the photograph below to use the women’s bathroom:

The New York Times reports:

Transgender Law Makes North Carolina Pioneer in Bigotry

March 25, 2016

Under the law, people in North Carolina are required to use public restrooms that match the gender on their birth certificate. Transgender people in the state can request to have their birth certificate changed only if they have had gender reassignment surgery. Many transgender people cannot afford surgery or choose not to have it.

By promoting the ludicrous idea that transgender women are inherently dangerous, the law endangers citizens who are already disproportionately vulnerable to violence and stigmatization. Transgender men go largely unmentioned in bathroom bill debates, but that could change. James Parker Sheffield, a transgender man with a beard, exposed the foolishness of the law in a tweet to the governor. “It’s now the law for me to share a restroom with your wife,” he wrote, attaching a photo of himself.

Here’s the tweet and photograph in question:

In New York City, police arrested this law abiding black mailman who had not done anything wrong

A Mailman Handcuffed in Brooklyn, Caught on Video

March 25, 2016

Glen Grays, a 27-year-old African-American mail carrier, was making his rounds in Crown Heights, in Brooklyn…

Mr. Grays was descending the steps of his mail truck backward, as postal workers often do to minimize wear and tear on the knees, when out of the corner of his eye he noticed a car making a sharp right turn onto President from Franklin Avenue. Mr. Grays shouted at the driver, climbing back up the steps to avoid getting sideswiped. The black car, in Mr. Grays’s telling, came tearing back his way in reverse. The driver said to him, Mr. Grays recounted, “I have the right of way because I’m law enforcement.” The unmarked car held four plainclothes police officers, according to the Brooklyn borough president’s office, which has taken an interest in the case.

By the time Mr. Grays arrived at the front door of 999 President Street, the police were approaching him. A video of the incident, taken by an observer on the street, begins at this point and shows Mr. Grays, in his postal uniform, as he is handcuffed, frisked and taken to the unmarked car. The officers tell him to stop resisting, even though there is no evidence in the video of resistance. What the video does not show, Mr. Grays said, is what happened next, after he was placed in the back seat of the unmarked car, with his hands cuffed and without a seatbelt, compelling him to leave the mail truck unattended. The driver, who had turned around to taunt him, hit the vehicle in front of them, Mr. Grays said, causing him to bang his shoulder against the front seat. Mr. Grays was then taken to the 71st Precinct station, where he was issued a summons for disorderly conduct that will require him to appear in court. He was then released.

U.K. man arrested for making a tweet that some poeple say is offensive

My concern here is not about whether or not the tweet is offensive, as that is a matter of opinion.

My concern is that he was arrested even though the tweet did not contain any threats of violence. The fact that someone could be arrested for this non-violent tweet is absolutely horrible.

The Guy Behind the Viral ‘Mealy Mouthed’ Tweet Has Been Arrested in London

The allegedly anti-Muslim tweet spawned a wave of parodies

March 25, 2016

A British man who posted an allegedly anti-Muslim message on Twitter following Tuesday’s terror attacks in Brussels has been arrested on suspicion of inciting racial hatred.

Matthew Doyle was apprehended by police on Wednesday in the south London suburb of Croydon, the BBC reported. He subsequently “expressed concerns for his health” and was taken to a nearby hospital, according to authorities.

Doyle’s tweet, which has since been deleted, read: “I confronted a Muslim woman yesterday in Croydon. I asked her to explain Brussels. She said ‘Nothing to do with me’. A mealy mouthed reply.”

Tuesday’s attacks, which targeted Brussels Airport and a major subway station, claimed at least 31 lives and injured more than 100 others.

The tweet went viral and prompted several parodies on a variety of topics, ranging from Bono to muesli.

— TechnicallyRon (@TechnicallyRon) March 23, 2016

Doyle’s account, meanwhile, continued to tweet apparently racist messages and even retweeted a lot of the parodies insulting him.

Who cares if I insulted some towelhead ?? Really.

— Matthew P Doyle (@MatthewDoyle31) March 23, 2016

Holy Fuck ! The Towel head in my local kebab shop speaks no English? Has no NI number and was on his mobile to Syria #help

— Matthew P Doyle (@MatthewDoyle31) March 23, 2016

The 46-year-old public relations executive told the Telegraph on Wednesday that Twitter’s 140-character limit made the encounter sound far more confrontational than it was. He also said his controversial tweets were meant as a joke.

“That’s absolutely not who I am,” he said. “I’m not some far-right merchant, I’m not a mouthpiece for any kind of racism or radicalism.”

However, he did add that he feels Muslims are not being vocal enough in denouncing terrorism.

“The horror that happened in Brussels could happen here,” he added, “and you’re naive if you think London isn’t on some terror shortlist.”

Poll: If you had two daughters, and could only give money to one of them…

In this video, the speaker says the government should stop giving money to women for having babies out of wedlock. She says the government should force the biological father to pay for raising the child, instead of the taxpayers.

She also says that if she had two daughters, and one had a baby out of wedlock and needed money to take care of the baby, and the other one got good grades in high school and needed money to pay for college tuition, she would give money to the one who wanted to go to college, and not to the one who had the baby out of wedlock. Her rationale for this is that we should reward good behavior, not bad behavior.,

I agree with her. I believe that we should reward good behavior, not bad behavior. I would give the money to the daughter who wanted to go to college.

Which daughter would you give the money to?

(Video contains lots of profanity.)

Concealed-weapon owner shoots hatchet-wielding attacker in Wash. 7-Eleven

It’s a good thing this store clerk was working in the U.S. instead of in one of those countries like Sweden or Japan where guns are banned:

Concealed-weapon owner shoots hatchet-wielding attacker in Wash. 7-Eleven

March 14, 2016

A masked man burst into a 7-Eleven near Seattle early Sunday morning, swinging a hatchet and slicing the store clerk.

Before the masked man could seriously hurt anyone, though, a customer who was drinking his morning coffee pulled out a concealed weapon and fatally shot the attacker.

Authorities did not name the attacker or the customer, but they did hail the concealed weapon owner as a hero.

“This could have been disastrous,” King County Sheriff Sgt. Cindi West told KIRO7. “Had this guy not shot, who knows what would have happened? We might have a dead clerk right now, and instead we have a dead bad guy.”

The clerk, Kuldeep Singh, suffered minor cuts to his stomach. He, too, thanked the customer for saving his life.

“He [was] killing me,” Singh, 58, said of the hatchet-wielding attacker. Singh added that the customer was a “nice guy.”

West said that the incident will be investigated fully but that the 60-year-old customer was currently being considered a Good Samaritan.

The “customer, the shooter, is shaken up but from everything that we see right now from the scene – there’s no wrongdoing on his part,” she told King 5. “In fact, he probably saved a life in this case.”

Kellogg’s says cereal was peed on, sold, and probably eaten

This happened two years ago, but apparently Kellogg’s just found out about it. I’m certain the company would never knowingly allow peed on cereal to be sold. I hope the person who did this gets prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I do not hold this against Kellogg’s.

Kellogg’s admits worker peed on cereal conveyor belt

March 13, 2016

Kellogg’s has confirmed that it’s investigating a worker who urinated on a conveyor belt at one of its factories.

The video is believed to have been shot in 2014 and affected Rice Krispies Treats, Rice Krispies Treats cereal and puffed rice cake products.

Kellogg’s confirmed that the food that had been affected was past its expiration date meaning that it’s likely people have eaten the contaminated products.

The video emerged yesterday on World Star Hip Hop and now Kellogg’s has responded.

An official representative wrote on the company’s blog: ‘Kellogg takes this situation very seriously and we were shocked and deeply disappointed by this video that we learned of. We immediately alerted law enforcement authorities and regulators.

‘A criminal investigation is underway as well as a thorough internal investigation.

‘Our investigation revealed that the video was recorded at our Memphis, TN facility, in 2014. Products that could have been potentially affected were Rice Krispies Treats, Rice Krispies Treats cereal and puffed rice cake products, all of which would be past expiration date.

‘Food quality is of the utmost importance to Kellogg Company. We are outraged by this completely unacceptable situation, and we will work closely with authorities to prosecute to the full extent of the law.’

Plastic-munching bacteria can make trash biodegradable

If this is true and it can be used on a large scale, it’s fantastic news.

Plastic-Munching Bacteria Can Make Trash Biodegradable

March 10, 2016

A durable plastic called PET is considered a major environmental hazard because it’s highly resistant to breakdown. But researchers have found a potential new match for this hardy plastic: a newly discovered microbe that is astonishingly good at eating it.

An estimated 342 million tons (311 metric tons) of plastic are produced annually worldwide, and currently, only about 14 percent is collected for recycling, according to the World Economic Forum.

Most plastic degrades extraordinarily slowly, but PET — short for poly(ethylene terephthalate) — is especially durable, and about 61 million tons (56 metric tons) of the colorless plastic was produced worldwide in 2013 alone, according to the researchers.

Previously, the only species found to break down PET were rare fungi. Now, scientists in Japan have discovered bacteria that can biodegrade this hardy plastic.

“The bacterium is the first strain having a potential to degrade PET completely into carbon dioxide and water,” said study co-author Kohei Oda, an applied microbiologist at the Kyoto Institute of Technology in Japan.

The researchers collected 250 samples of PET debris from soil and wastewater from a plastic-bottle-recycling site. They scanned these samples for bacteria that could eat PET.

The scientists identified a new species of bacteria, which they named Ideonella sakaiensis 201-F6, that could almost completely break down a thin film of PET after six weeks at a temperature of 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius). Appendages from the cells might have secreted compounds that helped to dissolve the plastic, the researchers said.

Genetic and biochemical analyses identified two key enzymes involved in the breakdown of PET. One enzyme worked with water to break down the plastic into an intermediate substance, which the other enzyme broke down into PET’s basic building blocks, the scientists said.

These findings could have a wide range of real-world applications, because bacteria should be easier to incorporate into devices to break down PET than fungi is. “We hope that we can develop a technology to handle such a lot of wasted PET,” Oda said.

In the future, the researchers would like to “improve the ability of the microorganisms to degrade,” Oda said.

It’s not known how these enzymes evolved, Oda said, and both enzymes bear little resemblance to the enzymes most closely related to them.

The scientists detailed their findings online today (March 10) in the journal Science.

Stabbing victim pulls knife out of own neck, kills terrorist

Yonatan Azarihab, who was collecting money for charity, hospitalized in moderate condition after Petah Tikva attack

March 8, 2016

An Israeli man who was stabbed multiple times Tuesday afternoon in a terror attack in Petah Tikva managed to remove the knife from his neck and use it to stab and neutralize his attacker, aided by the store owner, police said.

The attacker, a Palestinian, died a few minutes later, police said.

The victim, later named as Yonatan Azarihab, an ultra-Orthodox man of about 40 who suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper body, was hospitalized in moderate condition.

The store owner was not injured.

The Palestinian assailant had followed Azarihab, who was collecting money for charity, into a wine shop on the central city’s Baron Hirsch Street and began stabbing him “multiple times” in the upper body in a “frenzied attack,” police said.

At one point, Azarihab managed to break away and fled the store, while the owner of the store hit the attacker and tried to subdue him, police said. The victim then returned to the store, pulled the knife out of his own neck, and stabbed his attacker.

Initial reports had said the stabbing may have occurred during an altercation; however, the incident was later confirmed by police as a terror attack.

Magen David Adom paramedics said they treated Azarihab at the scene before taking him to the city’s Beilinson Hospital.

Nati Ostri, a volunteer medic from United Hatzalah who also treated the victim, said he found the man lying on the floor outside a convenience store.

“Together with other volunteers of the Ambucycle Unit of United Hatzalah we treated the victim utilizing first aid treatment, following which he was taken to Beilinson Hospital in an ambulance. At the time of transfer the victim was conscious,” he said.
