217 Arrested, Limo Torched Amid Inauguration Day Protests
Six police officers sustained minor injuries during the protests
January 21, 2017
Demonstrations turned violent in the nation’s capital as protesters clashed with police, damaged vehicles, destroyed property and set small fires in a chaotic confrontation blocks from Donald Trump’s inauguration Friday. At least 217 people were arrested.
The majority of the day’s protests were peaceful, but police clad in riot gear faced off against hundreds of demonstrators downtown near 12th and K streets, about six blocks from where Trump would soon hold his inaugural parade, D.C. police said.
Police charged with batons, pepper spray and concussion grenades to disperse crowds. MPD Interim Police Chief Peter Newsham denied claims his agency used tear gas on demonstrators, telling NBC Washington, “We have not deployed tear gas.”
The 217 people arrested have been charged with rioting, Newsham said.
Later in the evening, a crowd surrounded a bonfire near 14th and K streets NW, burning newspapers and furniture. Some protesters sat in the middle of intersections to block traffic.
“We’re here to protest out of compassion and to be here and to show that, you know, we’re all in this together,” protester Savannah Ingall told News4.
Before nightfall, a limousine was set on fire a few blocks away from where Trump made his way down Constitution Avenue with a military escort. The fire sent a plume of black smoke into the sky and Fox News crew SUV parked behind the limo also caught fire, officials tell NBC News.
Since YouTube came into existence many years ago, I have watched a huge number of different videos of protestors in the U.S. standing in the street in front of oncoming traffic.
And in every case – every single one – the protestors were always left wing, and never right wing.
Occupy Wall St. took that term literally – they occupied the street. So did Black Lives Matter. And now the anti-Trumpers are doing it.
But of all the tea party protests and other right wing protests in the U.S. that I have ever watched, I have never seen even one where they were standing in the street in front of oncoming traffic.
Why is that?
Here is a recent anti-Trump protest from San Diego, where they are standing in the street, in the dark of night, in front of oncoming traffic, and which shows – with a very loud “THUD!” – one of them getting hit by a car:
1) In December 2014, in Berkeley, Missouri, Alvin Henry Jones Jr., 62, died two days after Black Lives Matter protestors blocked an ambulance that was carrying him.
2) In January 2015, in Milton, Massachusettes, Black Lives Matter protestors blocked an ambulance that was carrying Richard McGrath, 82. The protestors chained themselves to barrels full of concrete to make especially sure that no vehicles could get by. In February 2016, after 10 of the protestors pled guilty to “willfully impending an emergency vehicle,” and were sentenced to six months of probation and 60 hours of community service, their spokesperson said that they were not sorry for what they had done.
3) In July 2016, in Memphis, Tennessee, Black Lives Matter protestors blocked an ambulance that was trying to get to a child, after the same Black Lives Matter protestors had blocked the same child’s parents’ car from taking him to the hospital.
4) In March 2016, in Chicago, Illinois, Black Lives Matter protestors blocked an ambulance that had its emergency sirens blaring. In this video, you can see that many of the protestors deliberately repositioned themselves so they were standing specifically, directly in front of the ambulance, even though its emergency sirens had already been blaring for quite some time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvCdAuBBh0U
Snopes falsely says it’s a “total falsehood” that Black Lives Matter protestors in Memphis, Tennessee, caused a child to delay getting emergency medical care
According to this report from WREG, this report from WMC, this report from WIS, and this report from NBC, on July 11, 2016, in Memphis, Tennessee, Black Lives Matter protestors blocked an ambulance that was trying to get to a child, after the same Black Lives Matter protestors had blocked the same child’s parents’ car from taking him to the hospital.
However, despite all of this evidence from multiple reliable sources, snopes claims that the incident is a “total falsehood.”
How did snopes manage to do this? By adding on false information to the original story, such as the false claim that the child needed a “heart transplant,” as well as the false claim that the child had “expired.” Those claims were, indeed, false. But no reliable source ever made those claims in the first place.
For snopes to label the entire incident as a “total falsehood” is to say that the entire incident never happened. And that claim by snopes is the real falsehood.
Video shows Black Lives Matter protestors deliberately blocking ambulance with emergency sirens blaring outside Trump rally in Chicago
Notice in the video how, even though the ambulance’s emergency sirens are blaring, the Black Lives Matter protestors deliberately move themselves so they can be directly in front of the ambulance to prevent it from taking a patient to the hospital.
It would be quite ironic if the patient turned out to be black, and he or she ended up dying as a result of these Black Lives Matter protestors.
Here are previous blog entries that I have made about Black Lives Matter protestors blocking ambulances:
Despite having killed someone less than a month ago, “Black Lives Matter” protestors continue to block ambulances
This is really despicable.
Less than a month after a man died because “Black Lives Matter” protestors blocked an ambulance in Berkeley, “Black Lives Matter” protestors just blocked an ambulance in Boston.
The Boston Globe reports:
Protesters snarl morning commute on I-93 near Boston
Protesters affiliated with the activist group Black Lives Matter carried out their most audacious and disruptive demonstration yet in the Boston area Thursday, blocking the largest highway into the city, snarling rush-hour traffic, and stopping an ambulance in its tracks.
In a pair of coordinated surprise actions that angered commuters, the protesters formed human barricades on Interstate 93 north of the city in Medford, and south, in Milton. Some put barrels filled with concrete on the highway and chained themselves to them. Twenty-nine protesters were arrested.
Blocking traffic is not going to convert anyone to their point of view.
On the contrary, it makes them look ridiculous.
And if they are trying to prove that “black lives matter,” then blocking ambulances is an especially dumb thing to do. I guess it never occurred to them that the patient in the ambulance might be black. Or perhaps it did occur to them, but they just don’t care.
I wonder how many black people were late for work because of these protestors.
I wonder how many black people missed a job interview because of these protestors.
I wonder how many black college students missed an exam because of these protestors.
To any decent human being, black lives do indeed matter. But if black lives truly mattered to these protestors, they would not be preventing black people from getting to the hospital, to work, to job interviews, or to school. Instead, they would be doing something constructive – something positive and beneficial – that actually helped black people, instead of hurting them.
