I’m not sure if I agree or disagree with Trump for rescuing the UCLA shoplifters from China

I understand why Trump rescued these guys.

But I’m not sure if I agree, or disagree, with what Trump did.

If they hadn’t been famous athletes, would Trump still have rescued them?

What kind of a message does this send? That’s it’s OK to break the law because you won’t have to pay the price?

And how dumb would someone have to be to shoplift in China, where the punishment is far more severe than in the U.S.?

UCLA basketball players admit to shoplifting in China, thank Trump

November 15, 2017

The three UCLA basketball players detained in China last week have admitted to shoplifting and thanked President Donald Trump for helping them return to the U.S.

The players are suspended indefinitely as UCLA reviews the situation, Coach Steve Alford said, adding they will not travel with the team and will not suit up for home games.

Last week, while in China for a game against Georgia Tech, the three players, LiAngelo Ball, Jalen Hill and Cody Riley, were detained for questioning following shoplifting allegations. The rest of the UCLA team returned home without them on Saturday. Ball, Hill and Riley returned to Los Angeles on Tuesday.

At today’s press conference Riley said he takes “full responsibility for the mistake I have made — shoplifting,” and said he is “embarrassed” and “ashamed.”

Riley thanked the Chinese police and government for taking care of them and he also thanked Trump and the U.S. government for intervening “on our behalf.”

“We really appreciate you helping us out,” he said.

“I will never do anything again to jeopardize UCLA’s reputation,” Riley said.

Ball apologized for “stealing” from the stores in China, calling it a “stupid decision.”

Ball said he “didn’t exercise my best judgment,” adding, “I’ve learned my lesson.”

He also thanked Trump and the U.S. government for helping and said he takes “full responsibility” for his actions.

Hill admitted to shoplifting and thanked the president as well, describing his actions as “stupid” and “childish.”

Alford called the players “good young men” who “exercised an inexcusable lapse of judgment.” The coach, who also apologized on their behalf, said he’s “extremely disappointed” and said the players “let a lot of people down.”

The shoplifting took place on Nov. 6, UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero said.

On Nov. 7, police arrived at their hotel to interview students and search bags and the team bus, and once the three suspects were identified, they were escorted to a police station, Guerrero said.

On Nov. 8, the students were released on bail and surrendered their passports, he said.

On Tuesday, local authorities confirmed the students were free to leave the country, and the charges were withdrawn, he said.

Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said in a statement Tuesday that “the matter has been resolved to the satisfaction of the Chinese authorities.”

UCLA Chancellor Gene Block said Tuesday, “Our primary concern remains the safety and well-being of all members of our community, particularly our students. I am grateful they are headed home.”

Block added, “When members of the UCLA family fail to uphold these values, we review these incidents with fair and thorough processes. In this particular case, both Athletics and the Office of Student Conduct will review this incident and guide any action with respect to the involved students. Such proceedings are confidential, which limits the specific information that can be shared.”

Trump on Tuesday said he personally appealed to China’s President Xi Jingping to help resolve the case. The president said Xi was “terrific” in response to his request and indicated he would intervene.

Today, hours before that players’ press conference, Trump tweeted, “Do you think the three UCLA Basketball Players will say thank you President Trump? They were headed for 10 years in jail!”

Stevie Wonder kneels while performing national anthem

I admire Stevie Wonder for being clever enough to come up with an idea that appeals to both sides.

This is just totally beautiful and awesome.

Why do the NFL kneelers accuse the police of racism but not sexism?

OK. So let me see if I understand what’s going on.

After multiple recent incidents of the police shooting unarmed black men, the protestors are accusing the police of racism, but they are not accusing the police of sexism.

Why is that?

If these police police are racist, then why are they not also sexist?

Poll: Should professional tennis continue or abolish its policy of gender segregation?

I came up with the idea for this poll after reading John McEnroe’s recent claim that if Serena Williams had to compete against men, she would be ranked at about #700 instead of her current position of #1.

Trump should return the Washington Redskins’ trademark protection that Obama took away

In June 2014, the Obama administration revoked trademark protection for the Washington Redskins’ name because some people thought it was offensive.

This set a horrible precedent.

Just about every R-rated movie includes content that someone would consider offensive, whether that content be violence, sex, profanity, etc. The same can be said for the content of many books, the lyrics of many songs, the content of many paintings, etc. If any copyright, patent, trademark, etc., can be revoked because someone finds it offensive, then I can’t even begin to imagine how much damage this would cause to the concept of intellectual property, as well as to the arts, sciences, music, literature, movies, etc.

There is no such thing as a right to not be offended. The whole point of protecting free speech in the first place is to protect speech that some people might find offensive. If we only protected speech that was dull, bland, and non-controversial, there wouldn’t be much point to having such protection in the first place.

On top of that – and this will really, really tick off the social justice warriors – in May 2016, the Washington Post reported that the Washington Post’s own poll showed that 90% of Native Americans said they were not offended by the Washington Redskins’ name.

Let that sink in, social justice warriors.

Anyway, I think it would be awesome – from both a legal point of view, as well as being a matter of principle – if Trump were to reverse Obama’s actions on this matter, and return the trademark protection to the Washington Redskins. The legal point of view is that it is not the government’s job to determine what is and is not offensive. The matter of principle is that we must stand up to the social justice warriors’ irrational nonsense each and every chance that we get.

Male high school track runner climbs all the way from last place to first place simply by claiming to be a girl

At Cromwell High School in Connecticut, a male track runner has climbed all the way from last place to first place simply by claiming to be a girl.

In this particular case, the person in question has not even taken any gender altering hormones, and has not had sexual reassignment surgery. Instead, the person merely claimed to be a girl – and presto – they moved up all the way from last place to first place.

Radical left wing feminists have no right to complain that this is “unfair,” because it is they themselves who created this situation.

As time goes on, more and more “female” sports will come to be dominated by people who were born with a penis and have XY chromosomes, but who simply claim to be female. They won’t even have to take the hormones or have the surgery. They just have to say that they are female. Quite a racket that they have started for themselves.

By comparison, men’s sports will never have to worry about this. I guess the radical left wing feminists will probably end up referring to this as “male privilege,” even though it was the radical left wing feminists themselves who created this “unfair” situation in the first place.

In the politically correct future that social justice warriors are creating, Caitlyn Jenner-like athletes will likely dominate women’s sports

A 17-year-old wrestler in Texas named Mack Beggs was born female, and is in the process of transitioning to being male. As part of this transition, Beggs is taking the hormone testosterone under a doctor’s supervision.

As a wrestler who identifies as male, Beggs had wanted to compete in the boys’ wrestling league.

However, the rules required Beggs to participate in the girls’ wrestling league.

Normally in such competitions, participants are banned from taking hormonal drugs such as testosterone.

But under today’s politically correct climate, where social justice warriors insist that a person with a penis should be allowed to expose that penis in a girl’s locker room, it is considered perfectly acceptable for someone who self identifies as male, and who is taking testosterone, to participate in a girl’s athletic competition.

Not surprisingly, Beggs went the entire wrestling season undefeated, and won the state championship.

If this kind of thing continues to be allowed, then in the future, many world records in women’s athletics will likely be taken over by people who were born male, who transitioned to being female. So, for example, think of a future Caitlyn Jenner-type athlete competing at the Olympics against a bunch of women.

If this actually does happen, the left wing feminists will have no one to blame but themselves.

Two years after Obama revokes trademark protection for Washington Redskins, 90% of Native Americans say they are not offended by the term

And now, two years later, we get a new reason for why Obama was not justified to do what he did: a poll by the Washington Post shows that 90% of Native Americans are not offended by the Washington Redskins name.

AP Investigation: Olympic teams to swim, boat in Rio’s filth

Why do the people who run the Olympics choose to put the athletes’ health at such high risk like this? Surely, there are other countries where they would be much safer.

AP Investigation: Olympic teams to swim, boat in Rio’s filth

July 30, 2015

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Athletes in next year’s Summer Olympics here will be swimming and boating in waters so contaminated with human feces that they risk becoming violently ill and unable to compete in the games, an Associated Press investigation has found.

An AP analysis of water quality revealed dangerously high levels of viruses and bacteria from human sewage in Olympic and Paralympic venues — results that alarmed international experts and dismayed competitors training in Rio, some of whom have already fallen ill with fevers, vomiting and diarrhea…

Extreme water pollution is common in Brazil, where the majority of sewage is not treated. Raw waste runs through open-air ditches to streams and rivers that feed the Olympic water sites.

As a result, Olympic athletes are almost certain to come into contact with disease-causing viruses that in some tests measured up to 1.7 million times the level of what would be considered hazardous on a Southern California beach…

“What you have there is basically raw sewage,” said John Griffith, a marine biologist at the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project. Griffith examined the protocols, methodology and results of the AP tests.

“It’s all the water from the toilets and the showers and whatever people put down their sinks, all mixed up, and it’s going out into the beach waters. Those kinds of things would be shut down immediately if found here,” he said, referring to the U.S…

The AP viral testing, which will continue in the coming year, found not one water venue safe for swimming or boating, according to global water experts.

Instead, the test results found high counts of active and infectious human adenoviruses, which multiply in the intestinal and respiratory tracts of people. These are viruses that are known to cause respiratory and digestive illnesses, including explosive diarrhea and vomiting, but can also lead to more serious heart, brain and other diseases.

The concentrations of the viruses in all tests were roughly equivalent to that seen in raw sewage — even at one of the least-polluted areas tested, the Copacabana Beach, where marathon and triathlon swimming will take place…

Besides swimmers, athletes in sailing, canoeing and to a lesser degree rowing often get drenched when competing, and breathe in mist as well. Viruses can enter the body through the mouth, eyes, any orifice, or even a small cut…

Girls basketball team gets booted from league for being too good

Girls basketball team gets booted from league for being too good

January 24, 2016

A Minnesota youth basketball team has been ejected from a league for being too good and now the coach, parents and players are crying foul.

The Rogers Area Youth Basketball Association girls high school team was forced to the sidelines by the Northwest Suburban Basketball League — and it’s all because the team is 3-0, Fox 9 reported Saturday.

“We found out Friday at lunchtime that we’re not going to be allowed because according to the league our girls were too talented,” coach Jason Hanauska told the station.

RAYBA sent parents a letter that said the main reason for the league’s decision was because other teams in the league “do not want to play RAYBA due to the skill level.”

“This is absurd,” parent Sherri Palmgren told the station. “Do we take the (NFL’s) Patriots or Cardinals, who are going to the championship game, and kick them to the curb because they’re too good?”

The league ejected RAYBA just ahead of a showcase tournament this weekend, according to Fox 9.

“Are we supposed to play worse just to make them happy?” team member Tessa McCarthy told the station.

Hanauska is slated to meet with the league’s board Monday.

Obama orders high school to undo improvements that parents made to bleachers

Uh uh. Too many parents decided to do something to improve the bleachers at their children’s school. Better cancel the improvements, and bring things back to the lowest common denominator. Who needs improvements anyway?

The Daily Caller Reports:

Equality! DOJ says boys’ baseball field is nicer than girls’ field, must die

The U.S. Department of Justice determined that a Michigan high school broke federal civil rights law by allowing its boys’ baseball team to fix up its athletic field, making it nicer than the field belonging to the girls’ softball team–even though the improvements were paid for privately.

To avoid a fine, Plymouth Canton Community Schools had no choice but to take down the new bleachers and scoreboard, which had been paid for through a private fundraising drive.

Six years ago, parents complained that the seating at boys’ baseball games was inadequate.

“It’s hard to watch the game through the black chain link face, so we created our seating deck to sit above,” said parent Dan Gilbert in an interview with FOX 2 news.

Gilbert and other parents installed and paid for the new seats themselves. They were put in years ago. The parents also bought a new scoreboard.
