The author explains that without private ownership, there was no incentive to grow food, housing literally disappeared, everyone became a thief, and people sold their own children for a handful of grain. “I am not a Democrat who believes that we can or should defend every government program just because it’s there… We will fire government managers who aren’t getting results, we will cut funding for programs that are wasting your money and we will use technology and lessons from the private sector to improve efficiency across every level of government… The only way we can do all this without leaving our children with an even larger debt is if Washington starts taking responsibility for every dime that it spends.”
However, after he won the election, President Obama spent $516,000 of taxpayers’ money on a video game called “Prom Week.”
I guess this means that based on his own words, he doesn’t consider this spending to be “wasteful.”
This is one of the reasons why he wants to raise taxes?

I was born in 1971. I tell you this because it should help to tell you something about the point of view from which I have watched TV shows. As a child, I watched reruns of sitcoms and cartoons from the 60s, as well as new programming on PBS, and Saturday morning children’s programming. During the late 70s, I also started watching a few shows regularly during prime time. In the 80s I watched a huge number of shows during prime time. During the 90s and later there have been far fewer new shows that I liked, although among those few that I did like, I found them to be excellent. (more…)
David Siegel is the founder and CEO of Westgate Resorts, a real estate and timeshare company. In a recent letter to his 7,000 employees, he wrote:
Who is really stimulating the economy? Is it the Government that wants to take money from those who have earned it and give it to those who have not, or is it people like me who built a company out of his garage and directly employs over 7,000 people and hosts over 3 million people per year with a great vacation?
I can no longer support a system that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, so will your opportunities. If that happens, you can find me in the Caribbean sitting on the beach, under a palm tree, retired, and with no employees to worry about.
That’s really quite good – I like that. Perhaps he’s read Atlas Shrugged.
In an experiment apparently aimed at keeping down the cost of health-care reform, Orlando-based Darden Restaurants has stopped offering full-time schedules to many hourly workers in at least a few Olive Gardens, Red Lobsters and LongHorn Steakhouses…
… many other companies, including the White Castle hamburger chain, are considering employing fewer full-timers because of key features of the Affordable Care Act scheduled to go into effect in 2014. Under that law, large companies must provide affordable health insurance to employees working an average of at least 30 hours per week. If they do not, the companies can face fines of up to $3,000 for each employee…
“I think a lot of those employers, especially restaurants, are just going to ensure nobody gets scheduled more than 30 hours a week,” said Matthew Snook, partner with human-resources consulting company Mercer…
At a new Olive Garden in Stillwater, Okla., former busboy Keaton Hasty said employees were routinely limited to 29 1/2 hours. “It was 29 1/2, and they’d kick you out,” said Hasty, a college student who now works at a pharmacy. “They’d always print off a little slip every day and say who was getting close.”
After Hugo Chavez won reelection in Venezuela, the Obama administration congratulated the country. A week earlier, Chavez had said that he and Obama would vote for each other, if they were citizens of each others’ countries.
So what exactly do Obama and Chavez have in common? They both love government control of the economy, and are willing to violate their countries’ laws in order to achieve that goal. It is only because the U.S. places much tougher constitutional limits on government power that Obama has not been able to carry out these policies as far as Chavez has.
It is only because of the United States’ constitution’s strict limits on government power that Obama has not done even worse things. In Venezuela, where the constitutional restrictions on government power are nowhere nearly as strong as those in the U.S., Chavez has done things which are much worse than what Obama has done.
