SF man who brutally murdered 3-year-old granted parole

January 25, 2024

A San Francisco man now serving a 25 years-to-life sentence at the California Department of Corrections health care facility in Stockton for the brutal 2000 murder of a 3-year-old boy has been granted parole. Patrick Goodman was convicted of second-degree murder and child abuse in the beating death of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son Elijah Sanderson.

Prosecutors say the child had more than 50 bruises on his body.

“We are talking about the murder of an innocent and vulnerable 3-year-old child in the brutal fashion that he was killed to grant parole,” said San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “On just the second attempt when we have seen even at the last hearing, where parole was denied that this is a person who was still in denial about his actions and his conduct on that incident.”

DA Jenkins’ office was at the December hearing and argued against parole.

“We have to be advocates for public safety and we have to make sure that people one, serve the time that they were sentenced to, but then also that when it’s time for them to integrate back into the public, that they are ready to do so and to be productive members of society,” DA Jenkins said. “And right now, we do not have faith and trust that this individual is ready for that at this time. And that again, he poses a significant public safety risk.”

The DA’s office is now in the process of drafting a letter to Gov. Newsom asking him to intervene and overturn the parole board’s decision. Overturning such decisions is not unheard of. The governor did it eight times last year and 21 times the year prior.

The American Museum of Natural History has just canceled its Native American exhibits

https://www.amnh.org/about/statement-new-nagpra-regulations

Beginning this Saturday, we will be closing two halls dedicated to Indigenous cultures of North America, the Eastern Woodlands and Great Plains Halls, to visitors and staff. Both Halls display artifacts that, under the new NAGPRA regulations, could require consent to exhibit. The number of cultural objects on display in these Halls is significant, and because these exhibits are also severely outdated, we have decided that rather than just covering or removing specific items, we will close the Halls. In addition to closing these two Halls, we will be covering three cases just outside of the Hall of Eastern Woodlands and two cases in the Mead Hall of Pacific Peoples, which display Native Hawaiian items. In addition, two cases in Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Hall also will be covered.

One immediate effect of these closures will be the suspension of school field trips to Eastern Woodlands, which for years has hosted local students as part of their social studies curriculum.

Special needs student allegedly raped; grandma sues Pittsburgh Public Schools, popular coffee chain

When I attended Allderdice (class of 1989) the teachers were always telling us that the school was responsible for anything that happened to us during school hours. This news article says the male students took the female student out of Allderdice during class hours, and took her to the Starbucks where they raped her. If what my teachers said was correct, then Allderdice is definitely at fault for this rape.

I don’t see how this rape can be the fault of Starbucks.

The article says one of the rape suspects had a long criminal history. He should have already been locked up for that. Then maybe this rape never would have happened.

The article also says that 78 crimes have been committed at that bus stop. I’ve said before that these serial criminals should have been locked up. I don’t know why the city (or the county) is allowing these criminals to go unpunished.

I currently live very, very close to this bus stop, and I have been very critical of what seemed like a media blackout on this rape since it was first reported 15 months ago. I’m glad that we have been updated with new information.

I wish the best for this girl in this horrible situation that never should have been allowed to happen. I don’t know why the city (or county) has allowed these serial criminals to run around free for so long and commit so many, many crimes.

Special needs student allegedly raped; grandma sues Pittsburgh Public Schools, popular coffee chain

January 24, 2024

By Rick Earle

PITTSBURGH — 11 Investigates has learned that the grandmother of a 15-year-old “intellectually disabled” student has sued the Pittsburgh Public School District, Starbucks and Kappa Drive Associates.

According to the lawsuit filed in Common Pleas court today, the student was allegedly raped in the restroom of the Starbucks on Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill in October of 2022.

The lawsuit said Starbucks leases the building from Kappa Drive Associates, and that they both, “refused to supply adequate security so that patrons could safely use its premises.”

“This young girl, was without question, one of the most vulnerable people that we have among us,” said Attorney Alec Wright, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of the family.

The lawsuit claimed that three male students left Taylor Allderdice High School with the freshman around lunchtime and went to Starbucks.

“Just take a second and think about, ‘What if I received that phone call?’, that my child was the victim of a violent sexual assault when they should have been in school and should have been protected,“ Attorney Wright said.

And it contends that the school district, “allowed…three student-assailants to take her from Taylor Allderdice to Starbucks in broad daylight during school hours, despite its policy that students are not permitted off the school campus during the school day.”

“PPS did not supervise, manage or train its staff on this policy and the three student-assailants were therefore able to take Jane Do Minor off campus during the school day,” the suit claimed.

The lawsuit said two of the teens took turns raping the freshman in the restroom at Starbucks.

“Because Starbucks did not have security or trained staff present in its store, the students took turns going back and forth from the bathroom as they sexually assaulted and raped her,” the lawsuit said.

It also claimed the three males left the coffee shop and took the girl to a nearby construction site where one of them sexually assaulted her.

The suit said she suffered, “significant physical and emotional injuries.”

The suit alleged that she was, “incompetent and incapable of giving consent, and she was confused, scared, sad and upset.”

That area is a popular hangout for students from Taylor Allderdice, who are required to catch the bus at a bus stop near the Starbucks.

That location has been the site of fights among students.

In fact, during an altercation a month before the sexual assault, Pittsburgh Police Officers had to use Tasers to break up a fight.

The lawsuit also said 78 incidents of criminal activity had been reported in the area, including vandalism, drug dealing and assaults.

And the lawsuit said one of the students involved in the rape was already known to police.

“Defendants knew that one of the student-assailants was known for a litany of criminal activity including drug use, drug dealing, vehicle theft, violence and flight from police officers and that he would frequent Starbuck and the Starbuck’s bus stop,” according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit also accused Starbucks of negligence and said the company, “should have known about the dangers and criminal activity occurring at and around its business location….and at the Starbucks bus stop that put Jane Doe Minor at risk of harm, and it breached its duties.”

Pittsburgh police investigated the rape allegations, but no charges were ever filed.

Attorney Wright said an examination confirmed that the teen had been sexually assaulted and he said he doesn’t understand why charges haven’t been filed.

He said the teen’s grandmother reported it to police with high hopes they would take action.

“Investigators will understand, and they will be tasked with doing something, but they won’t do anything. They’ll tell you that your daughter with a 60 IQ had the capacity to be gang raped on her own at her own volition,” said Wright, who is demanding a jury trial and seeking unspecified monetary damages.

A Starbucks spokesperson issued the following comment about the lawsuit:

“When we learned of these allegations, we acted with extreme urgency to and support law enforcement throughout their investigation. Our goal is always to keep our stores safe for our partners and our customers. Due to the sensitive nature of this matter, and out of respect for all involved, we cannot comment further right now.”

Pittsburgh Public Schools declined to comment.

71-year-old serial bank robber who spent 40 years in prison strikes again in LA

Natalie Neysa Alund

January 12, 2024

Police in Southern California on Tuesday announced they arrested a 71-year-old convicted serial bank robber after they say he allegedly struck again – this time stealing $64,000 in cash from bank in Los Angeles.

Bruce Edward Bell is facing felony charges including kidnapping in connection to the armed robbery late last month in Sun Valley, a neighborhood in the northern San Fernando Valley region .

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the heist took place on Dec. 21, 2023, and during the robbery, “Bell entered the location, grabbed an employee and pointed a firearm.”

Police said Bell forced the employee to walk over to a door with restricted access, demanded entry into the secure area and said if he was not granted access, he would shoot the employee.

The employee complied, and once inside, Bell ordered another employee to fill a bag with cash.

The armed suspect then fled the bank with more than $64,000, police reported.

A photo released by police shows the suspect pointing a firearm and wearing sunglasses, a black ski mask, a black hat and a gray scarf over a black jacket with orange stripe.

A getaway car and a traffic stop

Witnesses called 911 and told officers they watched the suspect drive away in a 2002 silver Volvo sedan.

Shortly after officers spotted the suspect vehicle, conducted a traffic stop and detained the driver.

During a search of the vehicle, police learned the Volvo was stolen and also recovered a black replica firearm and $64,000 in cash inside the car.

Police arrested Bell on charges including kidnapping and booked him into the LA County jail where online records show he was being held without on $1.6 million bond Wednesday.

It was not immediately known if Bell had obtained an attorney.

Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office records show he is due in court on the kidnapping charge on Feb. 9.

More than 40 years in prison

According to a Tuesday news release from LAPD, Bell has four prior bank robbery convictions and has spent more than four decades in the Federal Department of Corrections for the crimes, He was released from prison in July 2021.

Bell was on supervised release at the time of his arrest, police said.

According to the release, investigators said they believe Bell has other robbery victims who have not yet been identified.

Police seek more information about Bruce Bell

Anyone with information about Bell or the most recent bank robbery is being asked to contact LAPD.

In my opinion, this is a bad idea. However, at the same time, I respect the wishes of the voters of New York City to adopt this policy. I hope they are happy with this.

NYC decision to move migrants from tent shelter to a school amid storm draws fire

Nearly 2,000 asylum-seekers were bused to a Brooklyn high school to ride out the storm, drawing complaints from some parents, politicians and immigration advocates.

By Daniella Silva, Andy Weir, and Antonia Hylton

January 10, 2024

New York City’s decision to move nearly 2,000 migrants overnight from a tent shelter to a high school due to fears of an impending storm drew backlash Wednesday from parents of students at the school and others as the city struggles to house thousands of migrants seeking refuge.

The criticism included the city’s continued use of the tent shelter on a remote, abandoned airfield in an area of Brooklyn that is at risk of coastal flooding from storms.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday afternoon that with winds up to 70 mph expected, the city was proactively relocating the migrant families from the tent shelter at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn “out of an abundance of caution to ensure the well-being of those entrusted to our care.”

“While families are already in the process of temporarily being relocated, the city will ensure that essential services and the highest level of support are provided to all impacted by this decision,” Adams, a Democrat, said in a statement.

The shelter at Floyd Bennett Field is one of more than 200 sites New York City has established to house the surge of migrants arriving in the city since 2022 — largely as part of a busing campaign by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, who is seeking stricter security at the southern border. New York, which has a legal obligation to provide emergency housing to anyone who asks for it, has struggled to respond to the thousands of people arriving in the city.

Floyd Bennett Field has been widely regarded as a poor location for a shelter because it is far away from schools, transportation and other services and is vulnerable to the elements.

Images captured Tuesday night showed yellow school buses dropping off migrants holding young children and carrying bags with their belongings in the rain.

Students at James Madison High School in Brooklyn were informed Tuesday that classes would be conducted virtually on Wednesday because of the school’s use as a “temporary overnight respite center.”

“To ensure a smooth transition for families temporarily sheltering overnight in the building, our school building will be closed on Wednesday, January 10 and school will be in session remotely for all students,” Principal Jodie Cohen said in a statement to families.

The decision was decried by some parents who held a rally at the school Wednesday morning. One woman who said she is the mother of two students at the school called the situation “unacceptable.”

Alina, who did not share her last name, said she was “very angry” that the city “put our children last” and were instead “prioritizing the migrants.”

State Assemblyman Michael Novakhov, who represents the area and organized the rally, said the decision to relocate the migrants was “just really wrong. The school is not a right place for migrants, for anyone except the kids.”

He added that Floyd Bennett Field was “not a good place for temporary sheltering.”

“We have thousands of square feet of abandoned commercial property that we can use,” he said.

Zach Iscol, the commissioner of New York City Emergency Management, said at a briefing Wednesday that the school received hate calls and a bomb threat Wednesday morning. The bomb threat was cleared by police.

“These actions are not only deplorable, they’re also criminal offenses,” he said.

Floyd Bennett Field, along the shore of Jamaica Bay, was used for emergency relief during Hurricane Sandy in 2012, including housing 2,000 troops, according to the National Park Service.

Novakhov and others said the need to evacuate people demonstrated why the airfield should not be used as a shelter.

The Legal Aid Society and the Coalition for the Homeless said Tuesday that the “last-minute evacuation further proves that Floyd Bennett Field — a facility mired in a flood zone, miles from schools and other services — has never and will never serve as an appropriate and safe place to shelter families with children.”

The advocacy groups questioned whether the move would be “traumatic” and “disruptive” for the migrant families.

“We fear, especially with more inclement weather expected this winter, that this is only a foreshadow of more problems to come, and we again urge the City to cease placing families with children at this facility,” the groups said.

New York City Councilwoman Inna Vernikov said the city’s decision was “both unacceptable and was entirely foreseeable,” because of the airfield’s vulnerabilities to weather.

Vernikov called on the city to stop using public schools as shelters and said parents of the about 4,000 students at James Madison were “rightfully concerned.”

“This will agitate local residents, disrupt the entire school environment, and place a tremendous burden on our families, students, school administrators and staff,” she said.

Desiree Joy Frias, an organizer with South Bronx Mutual Aid, said outside the school that the city should focus on “moving people into permanent shelters so they can start getting jobs.”

“That is not the way we treat people. They’re not cattle. They’re not livestock. They are human beings with lives, with children, with human rights that are fundamental to them,” she said.

New York City has taken in approximately 170,000 asylum-seekers since April 2022 and currently has about 70,000 in its care, in addition to the homeless population, Iscol said at a briefing on Wednesday.

The city said that it projects to spend $4.7 billion to provide shelter, food and services to asylum-seekers in fiscal year 2024.

Iscol said at the briefing that “all of us understand in the city that Floyd Bennett Field is not an ideal place to be housing families with children.”

“The city has done a remarkable job making that place work,” he said.

Iscol said all of the migrant families were returned to the tent shelter overnight, beginning at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday after getting the all-clear from the National Weather Service. Most people were transported out by bus from 3 a.m. to 4 a.m, he said.

He said that the city is making alternative plans should the tent shelter need to be evacuated again and does not foresee using James Madison High School again.

“No one wants to disrupt the lives of asylum-seekers nor those of our students, parents, teachers and principals,” he said.

Judge rules that Wisconsin absentee voting van used in 2022 was illegal

Judge rules that Wisconsin absentee voting van used in 2022 was illegal

January 9, 2024

A Wisconsin judge ruled Monday that state law does not allow the use of mobile absentee voting sites, siding with Republicans who had challenged the city of Racine’s use of a voting van that traveled around the city in 2022.

Republicans opposed the use of the van, the only one of its kind in Wisconsin, saying its use was against the law, increased the chances of voter fraud and was used to bolster Democratic turnout.

Racine officials, the Democratic National Committee and the Milwaukee-based voting advocacy group Black Leaders Organizing for Communities refuted those claims and defended the legality of the van, saying there was no specific prohibition against it.

The lawsuit over the mobile voting van is one of several in battleground Wisconsin that could affect voting rules in the upcoming presidential election.

The van was first used in Racine’s municipal elections in 2022. It was purchased with grant money Racine received from the Center for Tech and Civic Life, the nonprofit created by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife. Republicans have been critical of the grants, calling the money “Zuckerbucks” that they say was used to tilt turnout in Democratic areas.

The van was used only to facilitate early in-person voting during the two weeks prior to an election, Racine City Clerk Tara McMenamin said. She said the vehicle was useful because it was becoming too cumbersome for her staff to set up their equipment in remote polling sites.

It traveled across the city to meet voters in their neighborhoods and collect early ballots.

The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, on behalf of Racine County Republican Party Chairman Ken Brown, filed a complaint the day after the August 2022 primary with the Wisconsin Elections Commission, arguing that the van was against state law. They argued that it was only sent to Democratic areas in the city in an illegal move to bolster turnout.

McMenamin disputed those accusations, saying that it shows a misunderstanding of the city’s voting wards, which traditionally lean Democratic.

The elections commission dismissed the complaint four days before the November election that year, saying that there was no probable cause shown to believe the law had been broken. That led the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty to then file its lawsuit.

Racine County Circuit Judge Eugene Gasiorkiewicz, in a ruling late Monday, overturned the elections commission’s dismissal of the complaint, saying state election laws do not allow for the use of mobile voting sites.

“Nowhere can this Court find or has been provided any authority allowing the use of a van or vehicle as an alternate absentee voting vehicle,” the judge wrote.

He rejected the argument from defendants that the use of mobile voting sites was allowable because there is no specific prohibition against them.

The judge said his ruling wasn’t a determination on whether mobile voting sites were a good idea or not. That is up to the Legislature to decide, Gasiorkiewicz said.

The Wisconsin Elections Commission and the state Department of Justice, which represented it in the lawsuit, did not return messages seeking comment on whether the decision will be appealed. McMenamin was in a meeting Tuesday and did not return a message seeking comment.

Early in-person absentee voting in Wisconsin for the municipal spring election begins Feb. 6. The presidential primary is April 2, with absentee voting allowed two weeks before it.

If appealed, the case could ultimately be decided by Wisconsin’s liberal-controlled state Supreme Court.

Lucas Vebber, deputy counsel at the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, hailed the ruling.

“Wisconsin voters should know that their elections are secure, and that election administration does not favor one political party over another,” Vebber said. “This decision does just that.”

Bakersfield, California is allowing car thieves under the age of 18 to steal as many cars as they want, and deliberately crash them into each other at this intersection, without getting punished.

Kids Regularly Crash Stolen Cars At This Intersection

By Steven Symes

January 7, 2024

Kids who steal cars seem to think not only is swiping people’s cars a joke, but so is law enforcement. That’s the only way we can explain stories like this one where kids take stolen vehicles and do little takeover events, purposely crashing into each other in the same intersection over and over again.

A family who lives near the intersection in Bakersfield, California says they’ve reported this activity to authorities but nobody has done anything to put an end to it. We’d love to say we’re shocked, but it’s almost like certain municipal leaders are encouraging this sort of behavior what with car thieves getting released before the paperwork on their crimes is even filled out.

You can watch the video report we’ve included from KGET News to see these kids crashing stolen cars over and over again. The local news at least seems to understand why this is such a problem, so why don’t leaders in Bakersfield?

The dad in the story doesn’t seem to have much hope about the situation. He feels nothing is going to change until one of the kids in a stolen car does “some real damage to someone.” We understand the frustration anyone would feel as they watch their city turn into a giant Grand Theft Auto game server. Nobody wants to live like that.

It’s worth noting that in the footage you see Kias. Those cars are notoriously easy to steal, which is why some insurance companies won’t even extend coverage to them anymore. All kids have to do is jump on TikTok to learn how to boost one with simple tools. But that doesn’t excuse city officials from doing something about kids committing these crimes.

Man on video attacking Las Vegas judge was granted probation multiple times, once by same judge

By David Charns

January 3, 2024

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The man recorded on video attacking a Las Vegas judge in her courtroom Wednesday was sentenced to probation multiple times, once by the same judge, and also once bit a woman, according to documents the 8 News Now Investigators obtained.

As the 8 News Now Investigators first reported, Deobra Redden, 30, a three-time felon, was in Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus’ courtroom for sentencing on a charge of attempted battery with substantial bodily harm.

Holthus was about to deny Redden’s probation request when Redden ran up to her, jumped over the bench and attacked her, video shared with the 8 News Now Investigators showed. Several other people then fought with Redden before throwing him to the ground.

Redden, who appeared in court with his mother, has three felony convictions and nine misdemeanor convictions on his record, according to documents the 8 News Now Investigators obtained.

In 2012, Redden was convicted of assault causing bodily injury to a family member. A judge sentenced him to 45 days in jail and a time, documents said.

In 2013, Redden was convicted three times for domestic battery, documents said. He was ordered to attend anger management classes, spend two months in jail and pay a fine in the three cases.

In 2014, Redden was convicted for attempted theft, documents said. A judge sentenced him to probation, which he violated several times. Redden then entered a mental health court program.

While on probation, Redden was twice convicted of domestic battery, tampered with his alcohol monitoring bracelet and violated other terms, documents said.

He was also charged with kicking a police officer in the knee.

Also, during his probation in 2018, Redden was convicted of battery with substantial bodily harm. In that case, he bit a woman and broke the windows of a man’s car with a rock, documents said. Again, a judge sentenced Redden to probation. A judge honorably discharged him from probation in 2020 and 2021.

In 2021, Redden was convicted again for domestic battery. In that case, a different judge sentenced Redden to prison for a term of 12-30 months. A board granted Redden parole in 2022.

Also in 2021, police charged Redden with attempted home invasion and destroying the property of another person, documents said. It was unclear if Redden’s arrest for these charges happened before he was remanded into custody.

In January 2023, Redden appeared before Holthus on the 2021 charges. Redden pleaded guilty and Holthus released him without having to pay bail. That February, Holthus sentenced Redden to a year of probation, records said. Redden violated his probation in October, and Holthus ordered him to serve 106 days in jail. It was unclear why Redden was released before the Jan. 3 incident or if he even served any of the jail time.

On April 23, Redden “[threatened] to bust the kneecaps” of another man with a baseball bat, “resulting in substantial bodily harm,” documents said.

In May, a different judge ordered Redden to undergo a competency determination, records said. Redden was then committed to a state behavioral facility. A judge then found Redden competent in October.

Redden pleaded guilty in November. Judge Holthus issued a bench warrant for his arrest in December after he missed a court appearance.

During Wednesday’s court appearance, Redden’s attorney asked Holthus to sentence his client to probation. The prosecutors asked Holthus to sentence Redden to 19-48 months in prison.

“Basically, I would like to tell the courts and everyone here, based on my criminal history, I feel that like I shouldn’t be sent to prison for a sentence time,” Redden told Holthus before the attack.

“Have you looked at your criminal history?” she asked him.

“I looked at it – I just looked at it,” Redden said.

“You lived it, I suppose,” Holthus said. “Three felonies, a [gross misdemeanor], nine misdemeanors, multiple [domestic violence convictions], you got a lot going on, sir.”

“I’m in a better place in my mind, in my mental health, I have a support system, I just got hired a Teamster for the union, making $20 an hour.,” Redden said. “The reason behind every single domestic violence, I’ve been dealing with mental health, and I didn’t know that I was dealing with mental health and they put me in mental health court and I still didn’t know that I had mental health problem.”

Redden appeared to accept the fact Holthus appeared to weigh on his prior convictions in her determination.

“I feel like I shouldn’t be sent to prison, but if it’s appropriate, then you have to do what you have to do,” Redden said.

Redden was booked into the Clark County jail on new charges of battery and battery on a protected person. One count of the battery-on-a-protected-person charge indicated the victim was “substantially harmed.” He was due in court on the new charges at 9 a.m. Thursday.

A court spokesperson said Holthus’ injuries were “being monitored.” A marshal was taken to a hospital. He was listed in stable condition as of Wednesday afternoon, a spokesperson said.

The mainstream media continues to insist that there is “no evidence” of voter fraud in the 2020 U.S. Presidential election.

They are lying.

Here are many examples of voter fraud in the 2020 U.S. Presidential election that, as far as I’m aware, have not been debunked:

Mainstream media reported that Fulton County, Georgia, “stopped” counting ballots for the night because “a water pipe has broken,” and “sent the ballot counters home.”

Video shows Republican poll watchers and media reporters leaving the building.

The same video shows a few people remain, and continue counting votes without Republican poll watchers or media reporters.

Video shows an election worker scanning the same ballots three times.

There is no visible water in these videos.

Ibram X. Kendi is a racist, not an anti-racist, because he thinks black plagiarists should not be held to the same standard of accountability as white ones. This is called the “soft bigotry of low expectations.”
