What the buck? NYPD finally nabs brute who attacked me two years ago, and DA Bragg asks for a lousy $1 bail

By Tina Moore

August 30, 2025

They finally got him — but forgive me if I’m not popping the bubbly.

The monster who randomly sucker-punched me in the gut while I was walking to work two years ago was arrested on Aug. 18 — and given an insulting $1 bail by infamously soft-on-crime Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.

Luckily, he’s behind bars on Rikers Island — because he allegedly tried to sell drugs to an undercover cop just before he was collared. That case was given to Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan and bail was set at $200,000.

Kamieo Caines, 36, a violent recidivist with 20 prior arrests who was on parole when he attacked me, wasn’t caught for two years — and when he finally was, the statute of limitations on my assault case had already run out.

Police were only able to charge Caines in my assault because cops were actively seeking him in the drug case – which kept the clock in my case legally ticking, a police source told me.

But Caines was always their top suspect, cops told me. So I, like thousands of NYC crime victims before me, am forced to wonder: What took so damn long?

I took a photo of Caines on Chambers Street and Broadway moments after he slugged me as we passed each other at around 10 a.m. on Aug. 8, 2023. He didn’t say a word after hitting me and took off toward the nearby No. 1/2/3 subway line. I gave the photo to detectives.

His parole officer even confirmed his ID to cops after my assault. But I wasn’t able to pick him out in a photo array at the precinct stationhouse.

Cops looked for the ex-con, but their hands were tied because of criminal-friendly bail reform.

No judge would have held him for simple assault — a misdemeanor. Since bail reform laws passed in 2019 the offense hasn’t been bail eligible — and police know that all too well.

Even if officers arrested Caines two years ago, he would have been right back out on the street. The system’s revolving door is one of the things that frustrates police officers and has so many of them racing for the exits.

It’s even more infuriating as a victim.

In what world should a repeat felony offender attack a stranger and walk free for two years without punishment?

This happens more often than it should. There have been 29,963 misdemeanor assaults like mine in the city so far this year, according to NYPD data. That’s a 2.6% drop from 30,754 at the same time last year. But it’s a 37.5% jump from five years ago.

I got the call from Bragg’s office about Caines while I was away on vacation.

Caines was busted at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and West 35th Street in Midtown Aug. 18 after cops saw him selling drugs to another person, according to a criminal complaint against him. When cops searched Caines they discovered 17 vials of crack and seven baggies of heroin on him, the paperwork shows.

Investigators with the NYPD Narcotics Bureau had been looking for Caines since he sold undercover cops almost three ounces of cocaine over two days in November 2022 in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, according to the paperwork. He was charged with three counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance.

Caines has 20 prior arrests for violent crimes on his record, including assault and weapon possession, according to police sources.

He was imprisoned for a conviction in the 2017 attack on two men with a box cutter during the evening rush inside the Fulton Street subway station in Manhattan. That bloodletting happened about six blocks from where he punched me.

Caines was discharged from Collins Correctional Facility in Erie County on Jan. 18, 2022. His parole ended on April 29 this year.

He was convicted in 2013 for injuring a person while confined at Rikers. He was sentenced to three years in prison and five years parole for that. While on parole, his bail was revoked twice for failure to appear, officials said at his Aug. 20 arraignment at Manhattan Criminal Court.

Caines was still raging during that recent court appearance.

At one point, he allegedly kicked another inmate in the head multiple times while waiting in line to be searched. Then, he spit in the faces of two EMS workers who came to take the man to the hospital, prosecutors and a police source said.

I was walking past a bike rental business on Chambers Street when I was punched out of the blue.

Caines also threatened “to kill everyone around him” during the intake process, officials said.

I reported my assault so nobody else would get hurt. It seemed like the right thing to do when so many people have been randomly struck while walking down the street.

I have a restraining order to keep my attacker away from me for a year, and Bragg’s office offered to help me with victim’s services.

I’ve written plenty of stories about crimes — from the horrible to the heartbreaking — as a crime reporter in the Big Apple for more than 20 years.

Stories about random assaults exploded since bail reform went into effect in 2019.

The violent criminal who punched me in the ribs on my way to work in NYC in 2023 had been paroled the prior year for a double stabbing on the subway not far from where he hit me.

Since my attack, I notice them all.

New York needs to do better by me — and all the other victims of crime in this city.

Lefty MP calls for flags to be removed as they ‘threaten the breakdown of society’

A York MP has demanded a u-turn from her Labour council and for a swathe of England flags to be removed from lamp posts.

By Christian Calgie

August 28, 2025

A left-wing MP for York has demanded that the local Labour council u-turn and begin taking down flags from lamp posts, or risk the “break down” of society. Rachel Maskell, who was elected as a Labour MP before being suspended following the recent welfare cuts rebellion, issued the call after York became a focal point of the nationwide patriotic protest movement.

Ms Maskell said York Council should act to remove the flags, despite the local authority being one of the few Labour councils promising not to take down the vast bulk. She told YorkMix: “Over recent days, I have been inundated with messages from residents concerning the placement of flags and painting of the highways by members of the public.

“While I believe members of all sections of the community must be heard concerning their perspective on different local and national issues, it must be within the confines of the law.

“Placing flags on lampposts and painting infrastructure is not within the law. There is good reason for this. If laws are breached, societies can break down and we all ultimately lose.”

“I congratulate the council for engaging with those individuals who have been leading the campaign. That’s absolutely right thing to do.

“But also we need to make sure that we can’t just attach signs and symbols to anything. I can’t put up my own signs and symbols without prior permission, nor can anyone else.

“It’s caused some issues around altercations in communities. We need to take that out of communities, and the simplest way is just saying we’re going to apply the law.”

Last week the Express revealed York Council was breaking from Birmingham and Tower Hamlets in allowing the vast majority of flags to remain up.

A spokesman told this paper: “We have no plans in place to remove flags that have been put up recently by members of the public. The one exception is on a short stretch of road beside York racecourse – and that’s because of a number of high-profile events this week.”

The authority also welcomed that the group behind much of the recent ‘flagtivism’, Flag Force UK, had promised to also put donations towards litter picking and other actions to improve local communities.

Responding to Ms Maskell’s call, Flag Force blasted: “A failed MP who isn’t even from York is now demanding the council take down our national flags.”

They also highlighted a speech delivered by Ms Maskell nine years ago calling for more refugees “until we reach saturation point”, adding: “what does it matter if we have to wait another week for a hospital visit or if our class sizes are slightly bigger”.

Trump admin threatens to cut millions in federal funding from 3 states over trucker English language rules

By Stephen Sorace

August 26, 2025

California, Washington and New Mexico may lose millions of dollars in federal funding if they continue to fail to enforce English language requirements for truckers, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced Tuesday.

Duffy said the three states have 30 days to comply with federal English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements after an investigation into a deadly crash in Florida earlier this month revealed the states made significant failures regarding the illegal immigrant truck driver who made an illegal U-turn.

“This is about keeping people safe on the road. Your families, your kids, your spouses, your loved ones, your friends,” Duffy said. “We all use the roadway, and we need to make sure that those who are driving big rigs — semis — can understand the road signs, that they’ve been well-trained.”

Duffy referred to the deadly Aug. 12 crash involving Harjinder Singh, a 28-year-old who officials say hails from India and is in the country illegally.

Singh was operating a commercial semi-truck with a trailer on the Florida Turnpike in Fort Pierce when he allegedly attempted a U-turn in an unauthorized area before the trailer jackknifed and collided with a minivan, killing all three of its passengers, according to officials.

Singh was given a CDL test following the crash and failed, according to Duffy.

Duffy said Singh got his CDL license in California and Washington state before getting pulled over for speeding in New Mexico in July. Duffy said Singh’s rig was not taken out of service even though he could not speak English.

Duffy said the ELP rule went into effect in June, making it so that truck drivers who were not proficient in speaking English would be taken out of service. He added that California, Washington and New Mexico have hardly enforced the rule.

Jesse Elison, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration chief counsel, said all three of these states will have 30 days to respond and present a corrective plan or else lose funding.

California could lose $33 million, while Washington and New Mexico could lose $10.5 million and $7 million, respectively, Elison and Duffy said.

Further steps could be taken should these states fail to comply, according to Duffy, though he declined to elaborate on the specifics.

“We don’t want to take away money from states, but we will take money away and we’ll take additional steps that get progressively more difficult for these states,” Duffy said. “There’s a lot of great tools that we have here that we don’t want to use.”

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said that in the 20 days since the federal takeover, there has been an 87% drop in carjackings compared with the same period last year

Mayor Muriel Bowser says Trump’s surge of federal law enforcement has lowered crime in D.C.

The Democratic mayor also said the presence of masked ICE agents and National Guard members “is not working.”

By Rebecca Shabad

August 27, 2025

WASHINGTON — D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser on Wednesday credited President Donald Trump’s directed surge of federal law enforcement with lowering crime in the nation’s capital but made it clear that the presence of immigration agents and National Guard troops is “not working.”

Bowser conveyed her ambivalent view of the Trump administration’s federalization of D.C. in a situational update since Trump announced efforts to combat crime in the city on Aug. 7. On one hand, she said the changes have resulted in less crime, but on the other she also expressed deep concern about residents’ “living in fear.”

“We greatly appreciate the surge of officers that enhance what MPD has been able to do in this city,” Bowser, a Democrat, told reporters about the expansion of federal law enforcement and its partnership with the Metropolitan Police Department.

Carjackings, she said, were the “most troubling” crime that plagued D.C. in 2023, and they have decreased in recent years. Bowser said that in the 20 days since the federal takeover, there has been an 87% drop in carjackings compared with the same period last year. The data cited also showed a 15% fall in crime overall in the district during the same period last year.

“We know that when carjackings go down, when use of guns goes down, when homicide or robbery go down, neighborhoods feel safer and are safer, so this surge has been important to us,” said Bowser, who added that she has been personally engaged with Attorney General Pam Bondi and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles.

Several members of the City Council rebuked Bowser’s conciliatory remarks, chiding her for characterizing the surge of federal law enforcement as helpful despite many Democrats’ warnings that Trump is using scare tactics to exert his presidential authority over the city.

“We should not, as the District of Columbia, be giving people the impression that this is a good thing, that we are OK with it, that it is helping the city. It is not doing any of those things,” at-large Council member Robert White Jr., a Democrat, said in a video on X. “I am not OK with this. The average resident is not OK with this. D.C. residents, D.C. voters, are not OK with this.”

Ward 1 Council member Brianne Nadeau, also a Democrat, echoed White’s sentiment, writing on X after Bowser’s remarks that D.C. is “under siege.”

“Our residents are afraid, hesitant to go out & to work, angry that our limited autonomy is being eroded. There is nothing welcome about this,” Nadeau said.

Bowser said she spoke to Trump on Wednesday afternoon, though she declined to provide details of their discussion and said the meeting was a “courtesy.”

“I was reminded of our first meeting after his re-election, where we discussed shared priorities for the district,” she said. “There, I was reminded that the president’s interest in cities predates his time in office, and his knowledge of D.C. had significantly increased from the first time he was in the White House.”

Asked what assurance she received that Trump won’t try to go beyond the surge’s 30-day period, Bowser said, “That was not something that I discussed with the president.”

Bowser signaled that the surge may not be needed after the set period. “What we want is local control of our public safety ecosystem,” she said when she was asked what she wanted after the month is up. “That includes deployment of officers, and we want federal officers that work in coordination with us — DEA, ATF, FBI — who, as the chief just mentioned, work with us on major crime issues all the time.”

She added, “After 30 days, I think we’re going to have officers, and we want officers. We want to enhance our officer presence.”

Bowser said the police department’s ability to address crime in D.C. would be greatly enhanced if the department were able to hire at least 500 police over the next several years. Police Chief Pamela Smith also suggested at the news conference that the city has benefited from the federal task force formed to bring down crime and indicated it could be a solution in the long term “when we do see surges and spikes in crime.”

Bowser said that since the increase in federal law enforcement officers, there have been more stops that have resulted in the seizure of illegal guns and there has been more “accountability in the system” that “is driving down illegal behavior.”

“We know that we have had fewer gun crimes, fewer homicides, and we have experienced an extreme reduction in carjackings,” she said.

Bowser, however, strongly rebuked the Trump administration’s deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and National Guard troops in the city. “What we know is not working is a break in trust between police and community, especially with new federal partners in our community. We know having masked ICE agents in the community has not worked, and national guards from other states has not been an efficient use of those resources,” she said.

While she refused to say whether she brought up her concerns about ICE arrests to Trump or Bondi, Bowser said people should be “assured that the things that we are very concerned about, we are working on a resolution.”

Many immigrants in D.C. have felt afraid since the federal law enforcement buildup began, especially as masked agents in unmarked cars have been seen arresting alleged undocumented immigrants.

Bowser said that the local government doesn’t have any information about anyone ICE has detained in D.C. recently. “I am concerned, for sure, because we think anything that we do and anything that we’re going to ask the federal partners to do is focused on violent crime.”

“I am devastated by people living in fear,” she said. “I think you know very clearly how I feel about our nation needing comprehensive immigration reform, about the Congress establishing a pathway to citizenship for hard-working people who came to this country for a better life and who are not criminals, who are law-abiding.”

Reached for comment about Bowser’s remarks, White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said that “crime is not a partisan issue.”

“Americans expect elected officials to prioritize their safety over politics. President Trump’s bold action and partnership with local law enforcement has quickly minimized violent crime and removed over a thousand criminals from the streets of our nation’s capital,” she said. “This includes illegal aliens who have prior arrests for heinous crimes like assault or rape and are members of dangerous gangs like MS-13 and Tren de Aragua. Other Democrat leaders who are criticizing President Trump for cleaning up D.C. should take notes on the tremendous success that Washington, D.C., has already experienced under President Trump’s leadership.”

A White House official said Wednesday that on Tuesday night, 40 undocumented immigrants were arrested who had “multiple convictions for assault, prior criminal arrest for DUI, assaulting a law enforcement officer, prior criminal arrests for controlled dangerous substances with intent to distribute, prior immigration encounters, and one has been deemed special interest alien.”

Since the federal surge began, the official said, 1,170 people have been arrested.

ICE Newark arrests child predator released under irresponsible NYC sanctuary policies

August 25, 2025

NEWARK, N.J. — ICE arrested Robert Reid Mendez Jimenez, a Dominican national, who is charged with child predatory offense Aug. 13. The New York City Police Department released the dangerous illegal alien after local officials refused to honor an ICE immigration detainer.

“This case shows the real cost of ignoring ICE detainers: Violent offenders walk free, and public safety is put at risk,” said ICE ERO Newark acting Field Office Director Ruben Perez. “I’m proud of our deportation officers, who tracked him down and took him into custody — removing a dangerous predator from the streets within weeks of his release into the community.”

The NYPD arrested Mendez on multiple sexual abuse charges, including sexual conduct with a child under the age of 11, prior to releasing him into the community. ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Newark officers arrested the child predator after using intelligence-driven operations to locate him.

Mendez is also subject to a final order of removal a judge issued in July 2018, following his illegal entry to the United States.

Mendez will remain in ICE custody pending his removal from the U.S.

Regardless of Harjinder Singh’s immigration status, I would like to know why California gave a driver’s license to someone who can’t read road signs. Here’s proof that he failed his road sign test after he was arrested.

Failed tests, fast departure: What we’ve learned about driver in fatal Turnpike crash

By Katie Bente

August 20, 2025

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — The deadly crash on Florida’s Turnpike that killed three people is now fueling a national immigration and licensing firestorm.

The case has drawn the attention of Gov. Ron DeSantis, who says Florida will personally take custody of the truck driver accused of causing the wreck.

On Wednesday, DeSantis announced in Lake Worth that Lt. Gov. Jay Collins will fly to California on Thursday to bring 28-year-old Harjinder Singh back to Florida.

“We are not going to wait around. The lieutenant governor is going to California tomorrow to bring him back here so we can throw the book at him,” DeSantis said.

The crash

Troopers say Singh attempted an illegal U-turn on the Turnpike near Fort Pierce on August 12, blocking all northbound lanes with his semi-truck.

A Chrysler minivan slammed into the trailer, killing three people inside: a 37-year-old woman from Pompano Beach, a 54-year-old man from Miami, and a 30-year-old man from Florida City.

Singh and his passenger, 25-year-old Harneet Singh, were reportedly not injured.

The very next day, before any warrant had been issued, both men boarded a flight to Sacramento, California.

On August 15, Florida authorities secured a warrant charging Harjinder Singh with three counts of vehicular homicide.

He was arrested in Stockton on August 16 by U.S. Marshals.

Court appearance and extradition

This week, Singh appeared in San Joaquin County Superior Court in California, dressed in an orange jail jumpsuit and speaking through an interpreter.

A judge read the fugitive warrant for three counts of vehicular homicide.

Singh then signed extradition papers, which the judge also approved, starting a 30-day clock for Florida to bring him back. If he is not picked up by then, Singh must return to court in California on August 27.

He remains in custody without bail and is also under a federal immigration detainer.

If convicted in Florida, he faces up to 45 years in prison — 15 years for each count of vehicular homicide.

Immigration status and licensing controversy

Federal officials say Singh crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally in 2018 and claimed asylum.

His first application for work authorization was denied in 2020 under the Trump administration, but he later received a temporary work permit.

In 2023, Washington state granted him a full-term CDL — a license that federal regulators now say should not have been issued, given his immigration status.

Some reports say California issued him a limited-term CDL in 2021, though FMCSA documents show the actual license was issued on July 23, 2024—and the license type is now under federal investigation.

After the crash, investigators with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration tested Singh’s English proficiency and road-sign skills. He failed badly, answering just 2 of 12 verbal questions correctly and identifying 1 of 4 traffic signs.

The Department of Transportation and other federal agencies are now investigating how Singh managed to secure commercial licenses in multiple states despite failing to meet federal safety standards.

Political fallout

Governor DeSantis has described case as proof of broader immigration failures, blasting Singh’s demeanor after the crash and calling him “cold.”

“It was almost like, you know, he’s walking down the sidewalk, maybe stubbed his toe it didn’t register to him, you know, what had happened,” DeSantis said earlier this week. “That should have never happened. He should have never been here. He certainly shouldn’t have gotten a commercial driver’s license from California.”

The governor also blamed Congress for what he described as “abuse of the asylum process” and sanctuary state loopholes that allowed Singh to remain in the country.

Fallout for trucking company

The trucking company Singh was driving for, White Hawk Carriers, is also facing scrutiny. Federal records show the company has racked up multiple inspection violations and, as of this week, has been stripped of insurance coverage outside California.

What’s next

With extradition paperwork signed, Florida has until mid-September to transport Singh back to St. Lucie County to face charges.

State officials now say that process could begin as soon as this week, with the lieutenant governor personally escorting him back.

The case is expected to remain at the forefront of the immigration debate in Florida and beyond as federal officials investigate how Singh was licensed and allowed to continue driving despite repeated red flags.

Stockton truck driver will be extradited, faces possible deportation after deadly crash in Florida

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced an investigation into the truck’s driver and the motor carrier.

August 19, 2025

STOCKTON, Calif. — A Stockton truck driver facing vehicular homicide charges after a deadly crash in Florida will now be extradited and is facing possible deportation.

Harjinder Singh, 28, made his first court appearance Tuesday.

The case is sparking attention from politicians questioning his immigration status and why he was issued a California commercial driver’s license.

Dressed in an orange jumpsuit, Singh walked into the courtroom and put his head down before his arraignment. With the help of a translator, in one word, he requested an attorney be appointed to represent him.

“You’re here on a fugitive warrant in the state of California for three counts of vehicular homicide,” said John Soldati, who is a San Joaquin County Superior Court judge.

Investigators say Singh was behind the wheel of a semi-truck that made an illegal U-turn across all northbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike. A minivan then collided with the truck, killing all three people inside.

Singh is now charged with vehicular homicide. During the court hearing, he was asked to sign an extradition waiver, which he agreed to. The judge said authorities have 30 days to come and pick him up.

Criminal Defense attorney Allen Sawyer says he will then be appointed another attorney in Florida.

“Usually, if it’s state cases, quite often it will be a different attorney in that state, that practices just in Florida, that would actually represent him on the real allegation – and the real allegations relate to the accident that occurred,” said Sawyer.

Federal records show Singh crossed the southern border illegally in 2018 before obtaining a California commercial driver’s license.

Secretary Sean Duffy is now weighing in on the matter after Governor Gavin Newsom posted that Singh’s federal work permit was approved in Washington, D.C.

Illegal migrant truck driver in deadly Florida crash failed English, road sign tests — despite getting licenses from 2 sanctuary states

Illegal migrant truck driver in deadly Florida crash failed English, road sign tests — despite getting licenses from 2 sanctuary states

By Alex Oliveira

August 19, 2025

The Indian immigrant truck driver accused of killing three people in a crash when he made an illegal U-turn across a Florida highway badly flunked English fluency and road sign tests following the smash-up, the US Department of Transportation revealed.

Harjinder Singh answered just two of 12 questions correctly when being tested for English language proficiency by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration after the April 12 crash.

And when asked to read highway signs and their meanings, Singh could only identify one out of four signs shown to him, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) announced Tuesday.

Despite these failures, Singh – who is believed to have entered the US illegally in 2018 — had been granted commercial driver’s licenses (CDL) in California and Washington state.

“This crash was a preventable tragedy directly caused by reckless decisions and compounded by despicable failures,” Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in a statement.

“Non-enforcement and radical immigration policies have turned the trucking industry into a lawless frontier, resulting in unqualified foreign drivers improperly acquiring licenses to operate 40-ton vehicles.”

Singh is accused of sparking the deadly accident after he attempted an illegal U-turn through a highway cut-through marked “Official Use Only,” with his massive tractor trailer blocking the four-lane highway.

A minivan was left without a chance to brake or turn, and hurtled at full speed into the trailer.

All three people in the van were killed, while footage from inside Singh’s cab showed him apparently unmoved by the carnage unfolding outside.

Federal law has mandated for decades that CDL holders must be able to speak English “sufficiently” enough to converse with the public and read road signs – with Duffy signing an order in May to bolster those laws.

And in California, CDL tests are administered only in English, while Washington allows tests to be taken in English, Spanish, Russian, or Serbian-Croatian.

Exactly how Singh was able to obtain a license under those parameters remains unclear, but the DOT said it intended to find out.

“We will use every tool at our disposal to hold these states and bad actors accountable. President Trump and I will restore safety to our roads,” Duffy said.

Singh was nearly deported in 2018 after he was detained crossing the border, but was released on $5,000 bond in January 2019 telling US Citizenship and Immigration Services that he feared returning to India, police sources previously told The Post.

He has been in immigration proceedings ever since.

Under the first Trump administration he was denied a work permit, but was granted one in 2021 under the Biden presidency — details which sparked a social media spat between California Gov. Gavin Newom’s office and the Department of Homeland security.

Singh received his Washington CDL in 2023, and his California license in 2024, the DOT said.

He was arrested in California Saturday by US Marshals on three counts of vehicular homicide.

Is Harjinder Singh, the illegal alien truck driver who recently killed 3 innocent people after making an illegal U-turn on a highway in Florida, the same Harjinder Singh who, in 2019 in Arkansas, drove a 38 ton truck onto a bridge with a 6 ton weight limit?

Harjinder Singh is the illegal alien truck driver who recently killed 3 innocent people after making an illegal U-turn on a highway in Florida.

Here’s video of that incident:

In 2019 in Arkansas, a truck driver with the exact same name drove a 38 ton truck onto a bridge that had a 6 ton weight limit.

The bridge was destroyed.

I don’t know if it was the same person, or a different person with the same name.

Here’s a picture of the truck on the destroyed bridge in Arkansas.

The truck drivers who did these two things have the exact same name, but I don’t know if they are the same person, or two different people with the same name.

Here are some news articles where they talk about these two incidents, and they don’t know if it’s the same person, or two different people with the same name.

In your opinion, what is the purpose of giving a commercial driver’s license to someone who can’t read or speak English, and thus, can’t read road signs?

In your opinion, what is the purpose of giving a commercial driver’s license to someone who can’t read or speak English, and thus, can’t read road signs?

In my opinion, the only reason to do this is because it makes people feel morally superior. It is a form of virtue signalling. And the people who support doing this have zero concern for the innocent people who get killed by these unqualified drivers.

What is your opinion?

This graphic video from Las Vegas shows a guy named Claude Rafiki driving his truck the wrong way, and killing 3 innocent people:

During his trial, they had to give him a translator, because he did not know English.

Truck driver accused of killing 3 outside Las Vegas said ‘wind’ caused crash

Man originally faced DUI charges, which prosecutors dropped

By David Charns

April 17, 2024

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The truck driver accused of colliding with three motorcyclists, killing them outside of Las Vegas, reportedly told troopers the wind caused him to drive the wrong way on the road, according to documents the 8 News Now Investigators obtained Wednesday.

Claude Rafiki, 29, of Michigan, faces three charges of reckless driving resulting in death for the March 23 crash on State Route 163 near Laughlin. A witness said Rafiki crossed over the highway’s centerline, crashing into two motorcycles, killing its two drivers and one passenger.

The crash killed Owen Hart, 22; Athena Faye Taylor, 21, and Jeremy Gebo, 44, all of Saint George, Utah, the coroner’s office said.

Rafiki told police the “wind” caused him to go the wrong way, documents said. He said he was not impaired and took medicine for seizures.’

Rafiki’s initial court appearance was delayed several days as the courts were working to find Rafiki a translator, records indicated. Rafiki speaks Kinyarwanda, a Central African language.

The trooper noted Rafiki had “bloodshot eyes,” “an unsteady gait” and an “unsatisfactory performance” on his field sobriety test, leading a judge to find probable cause to take two samples of his blood. A trooper trained as a drug recognition expert believed “Rafiki [was] under the influence of a dissociative anesthetic and central nervous system stimulants,” documents said.

State police never released any information about why they believed Rafiki was impaired other than what was in the document obtained Wednesday.

Last month, a Laughlin Justice Court official declined to release Rafiki’s arrest report, citing Nevada State Police as the rightful agency to do so. Unlike Las Vegas Metro police, Nevada State Police has a policy of not releasing arrest reports amid pending criminal proceedings. The department appeared to go against its policy Wednesday in the documents’ release to the 8 News Now Investigators.

A preliminary hearing in Rafiki’s justice court case was scheduled for April 25. He remained in custody as of Wednesday on $500,000 bail.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for southern Nevada on March 23, saying gusts could reach 55 mph.

California Democrats Luis Alejo, Norma Torres, Roger Hernández, Nancy Skinner, Ricardo Lara, and Jerry Brown helped illegal alien Harjinder Singh to get a driver’s license before he made an illegal U-turn and killed 3 innocent people in Florida

California Democrats Luis Alejo, Norma Torres, Roger Hernández, Nancy Skinner, Ricardo Lara, and Jerry Brown helped illegal alien Harjinder Singh to get a driver’s license before he made an illegal U-turn and killed 3 innocent people in Florida.

Those were the elected officials in California who introduced, sponsored, and signed Assembly Bill 60, which was inaccurately named the “Safe and Responsible Driver Act,” and which gave a driver’s license to illegal alien Harjinder Singh, who later made an illegal U-turn in Florida, and killed 3 innocent people in another vehicle.

Here’s video of the incident:

Man Shot And Killed In D.C. Blocks From Protests Over Trump’s Crime Crackdown: The fatal shooting occurred as demonstrators rallied against the President’s plan to combat rising crime in the nation’s capital.

Man Shot And Killed In D.C. Blocks From Protests Over Trump’s Crime Crackdown

The fatal shooting occurred as demonstrators rallied against the President’s plan to combat rising crime in the nation’s capital.

By Leslie Bolden

August 12, 2025

An unidentified man was shot and killed on Monday night in Washington, D.C., just blocks away from a protest against President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard to combat crime in the city.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) reported that officers responded to the 1200 block of 12th Street NW at approximately 7:01 p.m., where they discovered an unconscious adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The shooting occurred as a large group of protesters, organized in opposition to Trump’s plan to federalize the city, marched north along 14th Street. Reports from FOX5 and digital host Melissa Kim on X indicated that protesters had gathered in Dupont Circle around 6:24 p.m. and were moving toward the area where the shooting took place. Google Maps estimates the distance between the two locations to be approximately 0.6 miles, a less than 15-minute walk.

Trump’s announcement to deploy the National Guard came during a press briefing on Monday, following a series of high-profile attacks in the city this year. The President has been vocal about his concerns regarding D.C.’s crime rates, which he called “totally out of control.” He has previously floated the idea of bringing in the National Guard to address the issue and has promised that the city would “soon be one of the safest.”

A nearby resident, who heard the gunshots, told FOX5 that she was “a little bit shaken” by the incident and that it was a “shame” it happened on the same day as Trump’s announcement. “I heard those shots. They fired off pretty quickly,” she said, adding that she initially mistook them for fireworks.

The shooting and subsequent protests highlight the ongoing debate surrounding crime in the nation’s capital. Trump’s critics, including some Democratic lawmakers and legacy media pundits, have argued that the President is overreaching his powers and that crime in the city has actually dropped by 35% in 2024. However, data from local police has been criticized for allegedly omitting certain crimes, such as felonies and aggravated assaults, which could make crime rates appear lower.

The incident is the latest in a series of violent crimes to impact the city. It comes after a GOP intern was fatally shot in June, and two Israeli Embassy staff members were gunned down in May. In early August, a former Department of Government Efficiency staff member was severely beaten after intervening in an attempted carjacking near Dupont Circle.

Anna Giaritelli: A man went to prison for assaulting me. DC Police crime stats show he was never arrested

A man went to prison for assaulting me. DC Police crime stats show he was never arrested

By Anna Giaritelli

August 14, 2025

Five years ago, I was violently attacked and sexually assaulted in broad daylight in Washington, D.C., by a homeless man. He served time in federal prison for what he did to me. But if you look for evidence that the attack happened in the city’s crime statistics, you won’t find it.

The truth of what happened to me and the D.C. government’s role in it is as much a public scandal as it is a personal trauma. D.C. police covered up the unspeakable wrong that the stranger did to me. Even though a judge sentenced my attacker to hard time in prison, D.C. police leadership would rather deceive the public and appear less dangerous than list mine and countless other sexual assaults on their website.

The extent of crime in D.C. has been debated by the Left and Right since President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he would take federal action to crack down on problems in the District of Columbia.

But if the public wants to have an honest conversation about crime in D.C., the MPD will first have to be honest about how prevalent crime is. Without MPD’s honesty about the crimes that it has chosen to hide from its public-facing stats page, the White House cannot get an accurate picture of how bad the problem actually is and adequately fix it.

For me, the story began long before that attack. I was a Washingtonian for seven years. I was saving up money to buy a condo and planned to spend the next few decades in Washington, the intersection of politics and media. D.C.’s crime problem was something you lived with. You took Ubers and Lyfts, told others if you were walking after dark so they knew when you were home, and knew to be aware of your surroundings, almost to the point of paranoia. (Ladies?)

On a Saturday morning in 2020, I walked out of my apartment on Capitol Hill to mail a package at a post office several blocks from the U.S. Capitol. I put on my black sweatshirt and black sweatpants then headed out the door.

I never made it to the post office.

Just one block from my apartment building’s entrance, I was attacked by a large man well over six feet tall. He charged at me for a reason that I still do not understand. In broad daylight and on well-traveled 2nd Street NE next to Union Station, I fought to get away as he sexually assaulted me. If it had not been for others in the vicinity, including a construction worker named Donny who heard my screaming and ran to my rescue, I don’t know if I would be here today.

Despite my background working with federal law enforcement, it was only through my experience as a victim that I learned personally of two ways that D.C. police and the courts fail the public. I share those now with the hope that they inform the public and leaders to improve how crime is handled and prevented.

My attacker was arrested on the street months later, charged, and pleaded guilty to a sex abuse charge nearly two years later. MPD’s “Crime Cards” online statistics page omits mentioning it, though. Do you know what that communicates to a victim? How invalidating that is?

When I asked MPD in 2020 why my incident was not on its crime map, an MPD spokesman said the city only includes 1st degree felonies under its crime stats. That would mean that for every person robbed, assaulted, or sexually abused in anything less than egregious ways, you have not been counted into the total tally. The pain you suffered was not severe enough, according to MPD’s standards.

In a follow-up email to the MPD this week, an MPD spokesperson stated after a back-and-forth exchange that the map includes some sex abuse charges, but not all of them. In my case, my attacker’s crime against me, which landed him in prison, is still not listed.

“In an effort to provide more clear information about the most serious sex assaults that are most closely aligned with the public’s perception of rape and attempted rape, the most serious sex abuse categories are included in the reports of DC Code Index Violent Crimes,” the MPD Crime Cards website states in the bottom right corner at the bottom of a scroll within the page.

The Left and out-of-touch elite reporters have purported this week that things are fine in Washington because crime is trending down, while the Right has maintained that the Metropolitan Police Department’s statistics have been manipulated to paint a rosier picture of the situation. Turns out, it is actually worse than they knew.

The D.C. Police did do something right. The day of my attack, the police collected my clothes for DNA evidence. About two months later, they contacted me to say they had had a match to the DNA of a homeless man who had been previously arrested.

Police arrested him, but he was immediately released from jail by the judge who presided over the case. The assistant U.S. Attorney who prosecuted my case told me it was to keep the D.C. jail from overcrowding.

Here I was, a single woman who was attacked a block from my front door. Not jailing him until trial felt like a death sentence. How could I leave my home with him out on the streets, living in a tunnel a few blocks from where I lived?

Trial proceedings were set to begin in the fall of 2020, but amid the George Floyd riots in downtown Washington, it was delayed until early 2021. Then, the early 2021 start was delayed until the end of 2021. The U.S. Attorney’s office assured me it was not because the federal prosecutors were busy bringing hundreds of cases against January 6th offenders.

But all the while, the man who attacked me in April 2020 was out there. I moved across town to try to reclaim my life in the city.

The U.S. Attorney’s office would inform me through mail notifications and phone calls of updates to my case.

He was arrested in five separate incidents after being released, and after each arrest, the judge permitted his immediate release, even when he was caught in public with a machete.

The D.C. police officers on patrol must have been as aggravated as I was. Over and over again, they arrested a man with a previous criminal history only to have him right back on the street a day later.

I have thought about these failures by the police and courts for the past five years, but I have not been sure how to bring attention to them. Right now, we have a rare chance to bring meaningful change.

I have shared my story. Will anyone hear it and respond?

Baltimore Circuit Judge Yvette M. Bryant gave zero prison time to a violent criminal named Patrick Brice, even though there is video proof that he brutally assaulted two people, ages 84 and 72. One of the victims has permanent damage to one of his eyes from the assault.

‘I just snapped’: Man sentenced for attacking 2 protesters outside Planned Parenthood

By Dylan Segelbaum

August 7, 2025

Baltimore Circuit Judge Yvette M. Bryant ordered Patrick Brice to spend one year on home detention — plus 3 years’ probation
Patrick Brice said he was having a bad day.

On May 26, 2023, Brice said, he intended to debate Richard Schaefer outside the Planned Parenthood Baltimore Health Center on North Howard Street about the concept of sin.

But Brice said he lost it after Schaefer made what he perceived to be a racial comment. That’s when Brice tackled him into a flowerpot and then attacked another anti-abortion protester, Mark Crosby, who rushed to Schaefer’s aid.

“I just snapped one day,” Brice said Thursday in the Elijah E. Cummings Courthouse before apologizing to both men.

Though prosecutors pushed for a sentence of 10 years in prison, Baltimore Circuit Judge Yvette M. Bryant spared Brice, 28, now of Harford County, incarceration. She ordered him to spend one year on home detention — plus three years’ probation.

Brice must complete anger management classes, undergo drug and alcohol screening, take part in any recommended treatment and remain in therapy. That’s along with virtually attending Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meetings.

“What about my rights and my well-being?” Crosby shouted at Bryant as she left the bench.

Surveillance cameras captured the assault.

At the time, Schaefer was 84. Crosby was 73.

Schaefer refused medical attention.

Meanwhile, Crosby spent three days at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center and twice landed back in the emergency room. He suffered injuries including an orbital fracture, and the attack has left him with permanent damage to his right eye.

A jury found Brice guilty of two counts of second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Assistant Public Defender Matthew Connell, Brice’s attorney, said his client has always expressed regret for the crime.

“I’ve never tried to justify this, nor has Mr. Brice,” Connell said. “He is remorseful.”

Brice is religious and spiritual and served as a Christian camp counselor for 10 years. He now works for a food catering service. Since his arrest, he’s received death threats, Connell said.

Three family members, including Brice’s cousin, Paula Scharf, spoke about his difficult childhood. Both his parents died of cancer.

“I’m just here to support him,” Scharf said. “He’s always been a good kid.”

But Assistant State’s Attorney Ashley Sudberry urged the judge to send a message with her sentence that attacking two older men in broad daylight on the street in Baltimore for their religious or political views will not be tolerated.

Crosby’s attorney, Terrell Roberts, read a lengthy statement on his behalf in which he wrote that the attack demonstrated a “gross disregard for the law and human decency.”

“We were in no position to defend ourselves,” Crosby wrote. “To treat elderly folks with that kind of brutality is shocking.”

Schaefer reiterated that there was no justification for the attack.

And no matter what happened in court, Schaefer said, he would be back on the sidewalk outside Planned Parenthood.
