Crybaby Trump is against free speech and doesn’t have a sense of humor!
Here’s a skit from the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vQlhWBvAwY
And here’s a tweet that Trump made in response: (original, archive)
The text states:
“Nothing funny about tired Saturday Night Live on Fake News NBC! Question is, how do the Networks get away with these total Republican hit jobs without retribution? Likewise for many other shows? Very unfair and should be looked into. This is the real Collusion!”
So Trump wants “retribution,” against people who were peacefully and lawfully exercising their first amendment right to free speech. He also wants them to be “looked into.”
Trump took an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the U.S. Constitution. He ought to be ashamed of himself for thinking that the people at Saturday Night Live are somehow exempt from the first amendment’s right to free speech.
Homer Simpson’s ignorance of New Mexico’s statehood is now being replicated by multiple real life government employees in Washington D.C.
When I read this recent news article, it reminded me of this joke from The Simpsons. In 1993, during the season 5 episode “Boy-Scoutz ‘n the Hood,” Homer was shown to not know that New Mexico was a U.S. state. Here’s a video of it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3jYO0TKcm4
When I was searching for that video, I found out that The Simpsons had later recycled that same joke with Mr. Burns seven seasons later in the episode “Homer vs. Dignity,” which I had never seen, because it aired several years after I had stopped watching new episodes due to the series having jumped the shark. Here’s a video of that:

Anyway, the recent news article talks about how a citizen of New Mexico had applied for a marriage license in Washington D.C., but the government clerk was not willing to accept the man’s New Mexico driver’s license as proof of U.S. citizenship. The clerk said that the man would need a passport.
Such ignorance among a government employee who handles these kinds of things is inexcusable.
And how is it even possible for an adult who lives in the U.S. to not know that there is a U.S. state called New Mexico?
It was funny when Homer Simpson – a fictional character – displayed such ignorance.
But it’s pathetic to be coming from a real life employee of the Washington D.C. government.
To make it worse, when the clerk went to ask a supervisor about this, the supervisor was also unaware that New Mexico was a U.S. state. The supervisor also said that the man would need a passport.
All together, it took a whopping 20 minutes until one of the multiple government employees in the department was finally willing to admit that New Mexico was indeed a U.S. state.
Couple forced to prove that New Mexico is a state while applying for marriage license
November 29, 2018
LAS CRUCES — Gavin Clarkson, a recent candidate for New Mexico secretary of state, experienced a one-of-our-50-is-missing moment earlier this month when applying for a marriage license in the nation’s capital.
Clarkson, who lives in Las Cruces, and his then-fiancée visited the District of Columbia Courts Marriage Bureau on Nov. 20 to apply for a marriage license.
But, once there, the couple encountered a small problem, Clarkson said. The clerk wouldn’t accept Clarkson’s driver’s license — from New Mexico — as proof of his identity. Rather, the clerk, who mistakenly believed Clarkson was a foreign citizen — said he would have to provide an international passport to get the marriage license.
After Clarkson objected, the clerk went to check with a supervisor, who confirmed Clarkson would need a passport.
“You know you are from flyover country when you are applying for a marriage license, give them your New Mexico driver’s license, and they come back and say: ‘My supervisor says we cannot accept international driver’s licenses. Do you have a New Mexico passport?'” Clarkson posted on Facebook recently.
Repeat attempt
Speaking with the Sun-News about the incident, Clarkson said the clerk went back to check a second time about whether she could accept a New Mexico driver’s license as proof of identify. After that, the personnel finally concluded New Mexico was in fact a U.S. state and accepted his driver’s license along with the application.
Clarkson, who has called New Mexico home since 2012, said he’s heard about the state’s residents experiencing such incidents when traveling, but “it was the first time it happened to me.”
“She thought New Mexico was a foreign country,” he said of the clerk. “All the couples behind us waiting in line were laughing.”
Clarkson’s wife, Marina, immigrated from Argentina in the 1990s, becoming a legal permanent resident and then a naturalized U.S. citizen. She speaks English fluently, though she has a slight accent. But the clerk complimented Clarkson, not Marina, on how well he spoke the language. He said his wife was in disbelief, wondering: “Why are you complimenting him on his English?”
‘It was a comical moment’
The incident took about 20 minutes altogether, and the clerk kindly apologized for the error, Clarkson said. While it was an annoyance at the time, looking back, he and his wife see the humor in it. The couple’s wedding ceremony — which also took place in Washington, D.C., where his wife lives — took place without any problems.
“Everything else went fine, but it was a comical moment in the whole process,” he said.
Notably, Clarkson is also an enrolled member of the Choctaw Nation. If he’d shown that ID to the marriage bureau, he said, it could have cleared up the confusion over his identity.
“Apparently it would have been easier if I’d shown her my tribal ID,” he said.
The D.C. courts system acknowledged the staff error in response to a call from the Sun-News.
“We understand that a clerk in our Marriage Bureau made a mistake regarding New Mexico’s 106-year history as a state,” said Leah H. Gurowitz, director of media and public relations for D.C. Courts, in an email. “We very much regret the error and the slight delay it caused a New Mexico resident in applying for a DC marriage license.”
Not alone
Clarkson is not alone in his experience applying for a marriage license. In a regular feature dubbed “One of Our 50 is Missing,” New Mexico Magazine for years has documented with comedic flair New Mexicans’ frustrations and trials in trying to persuade non-New Mexicans across the country — and sometimes the world — that New Mexico is in fact one of the 50 U.S. states.
The Clarksons have since celebrated their wedding with a reception in Texas, where Marina’s family live; they plan to also have a reception in New Mexico.
Since the Nov. 6 election, Clarkson, who was the GOP’s nominee for New Mexico secretary of state, said he’s been in “recovery mode,” but he’s keeping his options open about what he’ll do next. He does plan to stay in New Mexico.
Trump has a new proposal for dealing with undocumented immigrants
President Trump has a pretty nasty proposal for dealing with undocumented immigrants who try to climb over the border wall that he is planning to build.
On the positive side, at least he lets family members stay together.

Roseanne defends her Muslim neighbor. Why is the political left celebrating the cancellation of this anti-Islamophobic TV show?
Here’s a scene from a recent episode of Roseanne. I think this is awesome, and I am sad that the show was recently cancelled.
This scene is very much against Islamophobia. So why is the political left celebrating the show’s cancellation?

Thank goodness for Roseanne on DVD
Roseanne Barr is already super rich. The cancellation of her TV series after she said something controversial will have zero impact on her standard of living.
The people who worked on the show behind the scenes are the ones who will be hurt.
And millions of people will be deprived of being able to watch the syndicated reruns.
I’ll keep watching my DVDs of the first five seasons of Roseanne, just like I’ll keep watching my DVDs of the first two seasons of The Cosby Show.
I wonder if the same people who support this cancellation and stopping the reruns have also stopped listening to the Beatles since it was revealed that John Lennon was a wife beater.
A person can be really good at one thing (creating movies, music, or TV shows) and simultaneously be really bad at another thing (being a racist, or a wife-beater). Since we live in a highly technological society with very high levels of specialization, I personally think it would be irrational to stop eating my favorite candy just because it turned out that the CEO of the candy company had murdered his family. But I respect the rights of others who disagree with me, i.e., those who would stop eating the candy because of that.

When Lynda Carter’s Diana Prince transformed into Wonder Woman, the flash of light changed colors from red to white to blue
When I watched Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman on TV every week as a young child in the 1970s, our family’s TV was black and white, so I had no idea that when Diana Prince transformed into Wonder Woman, the flash of light changed colors from red to white to blue.
The show ran for three seasons. The first season took place during World War II, just like in the comic book. In the early episodes, there was no flash of light during the transformation. The flash of light was eventually added during the middle of season one in order to try to prevent viewers from noticing any inconsistencies in the background during the “before” and “after.”
In order to save money on expensive World War II set pieces, the show was moved to the then present 1970s at the beginning of season two. In order to keep Lyle Waggoner on the show, the Steve Trevor character of the 1940s was replaced with Steve Trevor Jr. in the 1970s, who knew everything about Wonder Woman from having listened to stories that had been told to him by his father.
Plot summaries can be read here. The show is available on DVD. My personal favorite season is three, where a huge number of the plots were campy science fiction stories.
Anyway, here’s every instance of Diana Prince transforming into Wonder Woman from the show:

Steve Harvey Announces The WRONG Winner of Miss Universe 2015
Steve Harvey made a mistake. Who hasn’t?
What I got from this more than anything else is that Steve Harvey admitted that it was his fault. He showed the audience that the correct winner was on the card, and he said it was entirely his own fault that he said the wrong thing. He didn’t make excuses, and he didn’t try to blame it on someone else. I admire him for that.

Liberal Rebecca Watson explains why it’s OK that rich kids will get to see new episodes of Sesame Street nine months before poor kids
In this video, liberal Rebecca Watson praises HBO for funding new episodes of Sesame Street, which it will let PBS air for free after nine months. The number of new episodes produced per year is also getting bigger because of this deal with HBO.
I agree with Ms. Watson that this is a good idea. She admits that rich kids will get to see the new episodes nine months earlier than poor kids, but also says that this is not a problem. I praise her for seeing this as a win-win situation instead of as a class-warfare type thing. I wish more liberals shared her way of thinking.
I myself grew up watching Sesame Street, Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, The Electric Company, 3-2-1 Contact, and other educational shows on PBS, and I am definitely a better person for having done so. Perhaps this makes me a “bad” libertarian, but I can’t think of any practical reason to oppose government funded public television. In theory, libertarians such as myself are supposed to be against it. But I believe that in this particular case, real world evidence proves that the theory is wrong. The financial cost of public television, as a percentage of the federal budget, has always been trivial, and the educational benefits of public television over the decades have been enormous. I am glad that I, as well as millions of other people, watched it when we were children, and if that required the use of taxpayers’ money, then so be it.

I really like this new sitcom called “Younger”
There’s a new sitcom on TV-Land called “Younger.” It’s about a 40 year old woman who pretends to be 26.
So far, 12 episodes have aired, which constitutes the entire first season. I watched all 12 episodes at YouTube, and I think this is a wonderful show.
Here’s the first episode:

Daryl Hall and John Oates have just uploaded high quality versions of their music videos to YouTube
You can see them at https://www.youtube.com/user/hallandoatesVEVO/videos
These are much better quality than the VHS recordings that many fans have uploaded over the years.
It’s not a mistake that they uploaded “Jingle Bell Rock” twice – one version has Daryl singing, and the other one has John.
My family got cable with MTV in July 1982. I even remember MTV celebrating its one year anniversary a month later. I though I had seen every Hall and Oates video a huge number of times – but I had no idea that they had videos of songs from their X-Static album. What a pleasant surprise!

Bobbi Kristina Brown Was Using Heroin Prior to Bathtub Incident
February 21, 2015
Bobbi Kristina Brown, the troubled daughter of deceased singer Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, was using heroin and other drugs prior to being found unresponsive and face-down in her bathtub on Jan. 31, People reports.
According to People’s sources, Brown, 21, was “regularly” using heroin, cocaine and Xanax in the months leading up to the incident, as well as drinking heavily.
The bathtub incident bears eerie similarities to Houston’s death at age 48. Houston was found submerged and unconscious in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel prior to her mentor Clive Davis‘ pre-Grammys party. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office later determined that Houston had drowned to death, with heart disease and cocaine use contributing to her death.
