Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is taking the Green New Deal global.
The New York Democrat posted an Instagram story Tuesday afternoon showing herself walking through the airport as she headed for her first trip abroad as a freshman lawmaker.
She’s off to Copenhagen, Denmark, for the C40 World Mayors Summit.
“After a very busy week in district, I’m headed to Copenhagen for a global C40 conference where mayors and a lot of other public servants are going to be convening to discuss what we’ll be – what actions we need to take for the climate crisis,” she told her followers.
Mayors from Los Angeles, Boston and Philadelphia, among others, will all be in attendance. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio will not attend, The Post confirmed.

This New York Times article is from six years ago, but I just found out about it.
The article talks about able-bodied people in Denmark who have been on welfare for a very long time.
It says these able bodied adults get more money from welfare than what many full time workers get from their jobs.
Here’s one example from the article:
It began as a stunt intended to prove that hardship and poverty still existed in this small, wealthy country, but it backfired badly. Visit a single mother of two on welfare, a liberal member of Parliament goaded a skeptical political opponent, see for yourself how hard it is.
It turned out, however, that life on welfare was not so hard. The 36-year-old single mother, given the pseudonym “Carina” in the news media, had more money to spend than many of the country’s full-time workers. All told, she was getting about $2,700 a month, and she had been on welfare since she was 16.
Here’s another example from the article:
Robert Nielsen, 45, made headlines last September when he was interviewed on television, admitting that he had basically been on welfare since 2001.
Mr. Nielsen said he was able-bodied but had no intention of taking a demeaning job, like working at a fast-food restaurant. He made do quite well on welfare, he said…
… Mr. Nielsen, called “Lazy Robert” by the news media, seems to be enjoying the attention. He says that he is greeted warmly on the street all the time. “Luckily, I am born and live in Denmark, where the government is willing to support my life,” he said.
So when you hear Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, and other American politicians say they want the U.S. to be like Denmark, please ask yourself if the two people cited above by the New York Times are how you would want your own able bodied children to behave when they grow up.

As a person who values individual liberty and limited government, I’d be very much opposed to a law like this in the U.S. It would be a violation of the first amendment, as well as something that I would view as being totalitarian.
But Denmark is the “happiest” and “most progressive” country in the world, and who am I to tell them what to do?
I do have to wonder why Muslims would immigrate to Denmark when it is so Islamophobic.

A 28-year-old woman wearing a niqab on Friday became the first person in Denmark to be fined for violating a new law banning full-face Islamic veils in public places, media reported.
Police were called to a shopping centre in Horsholm, in the north-eastern region of Nordsjaelland, where the woman had become involved in a scuffle with another woman who had tried to tear her niqab off, police duty officer David Borchersen told the Ritzau news agency.
“During the fight her niqab came off, but by the time we arrived she had put it back on again,” Borchersen said.

Police took a photograph of the woman wearing the niqab, and obtained security camera footage from the shopping centre of the incident.
The woman was informed she would receive a fine of 1,000 kroner (£120) in the post, and was told to either remove her veil or leave the public space.
“She chose the latter,” Borchersen said.
As of 1 August, wearing a burqa, which covers a person’s entire face, or the niqab, which only shows the eyes, in public carries a fine of 1,000 kroner.
Repeated violations can be fined up to 10,000 kroner.
The ban also targets other accessories that hide the face such as balaclavas, masks and false beards.
Human rights campaigners say the ban is a violation of women’s rights, while supporters argue it enables better integration of Muslim immigrants.

Belgium, France, Germany and Austria have also imposed bans or partial bans of full-face veils.
