In Chicago, a 24-year-old woman was murdered because the bleeding hearts kept setting these four violent serial criminals free again and again and again, instead of keeping them locked up. The bleeding hearts will try to use this murder as an excuse to pass more gun control, instead of admitting that they were wrong to not keep these violent serial criminals locked up.

The criminal histories of the suspect’s in CPD Officer Areanah Preston’s murder

May 10, 2023

CHICAGO (CBS) — CBS 2 is always investigating.

CBS 2’s Marissa Perlman reports on the criminal history of the suspects charged in the murder of CPD Officer Areanah Preston. They all now face first degree murder and armed robbery charges in Saturday’s killing.

All of them with a criminal history. Three of the suspects were 14 at the time of their first arrest. The youngest was arrested for the first time at 13. Each of the four suspects in CPD Officer Areanah Preston’s murder has a lengthy criminal history.

Their records show a pattern of committing new crimes while on probation. The most serious sentence: Joseph Brooks, 18, arrested nine times since 2019. Charges involve a stolen car, theft and armed robbery.

Last September, he was sent to juvenile detention for a carjacking he committed while on probation, and was classified as a violent juvenile offender.

Sources tell the CBS 2 Investigators this case was closed just a few weeks before Officer Preston’s murder. Jakwon Buchanan also 18, was arrested in 2019 for robbery. While on probation, he was arrested again for carjacking.

Last November, a juvenile arrest warrant was issued related to both of those crimes.

Then there’s 19-year-old Trevell Breeland, who has faced multiple charges as an adult and a juvenile. He too was on probation at the time of the murder. His record dates back to 2018 and includes attacking a teacher and pushing his mother down the stairs. He’s never been given more than probation or supervision.

The youngest suspect, Jaylen Frazier, is 16. his first arrest in 2019 was at 13. He served four years probation. While on probation for robbery, he was arrested multiple times for weapons offenses, armed robbery and having a stolen car. He too spent time in juvenile detention.

Three of the four have had some involvement with DCFS but the details of those cases are not yet clear. They are all being held without bond.

This is absolutely despicable.

Chicago is way, way, way too lenient on criminals who kill people.

A Chicago auto parts store manager shot and killed a would-be robber Saturday after the suspect flashed a gun, according to police.

By Haley Chi-Sing

April 2, 2023

A man between 30 and 40 years old reportedly entered an O’Reilly Auto Parts store in Calumet Heights, took out a firearm and demanded money from the register, police said.

The store manager, whose name has not yet been disclosed, pulled out his own firearm and fired shots at the robber. Police said the manager is a valid FOID cardholder.

The would-be robber was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries, police said.

Multiple bullet holes riddled the vestibule, along with shattered glass out front of the building. A gun was also seen near the entrance to the shop. Detectives were later seen taking photos out front of the auto parts store.

Police have not yet publicly identified the deceased man.

The incident comes as many Chicago residents have become concealed carry holders.

A Fox News Digital analysis based on local media reports going back to 2020 found at least 44 incidents where individuals with a gun – who had concealed carry permits or an FOID, an Illinois identification card used for gun possession and purchase – have thwarted an attack or other crime.

11 US cities — all governed by Democratic mayors — listed among 50 most dangerous in world

Three Democrat-run U.S. cities rank in top 20 on annual list: Baltimore (#15), Memphis (#18), and Detroit (#19). Two more are among world’s 30 most dangerous: Albuquerque (#23) and St. Louis (#27).

By John Mac Ghlionn

January 31, 2023

Eleven U.S. cities rank among the 50 most dangerous in the world, according to a recent report published by Numbeo, a global quality of life database. All 11 are governed by Democratic mayors.

Three U.S. cities — Baltimore, Memphis and Detroit — are ranked among the 20 most dangerous cities on the planet.

The three cities have more in common than just violent crime. All three are run by Democrats.

Baltimore ranks #15 on the annual dangerous cities list, with Memphis and Detroit close behind at #18 and #19, respectively.

Brandon Scott, just 38 years of age, is the mayor of Baltimore. Jim Strickland Jr., an attorney and politician, is the 64th and current mayor of Memphis, where the Memphis police department has just announced plans to permanently deactivate the unit that five of the officers involved in the vicious beating of Tyre Nichols belonged to. Mike Duggan, meanwhile, is currently serving as the mayor of Detroit.

Two more U.S. cities run by Democrats appear among the 30 most dangerous in the world: Albuquerque (#23), where 45-year-old Tim Keller serves as the 30th mayor, and St. Louis (#27), where Tishaura Oneda Jones has served as mayor since April of 2021.

Tracking back for a wider view yields a still grimmer perspective for Democrats, as another six Democrat-run cities rank among the world’s 50 most dangerous: New Orleans (#35), Oakland (#38), Milwaukee (#40), Chicago (#43), Philadelphia (#46), and Houston (#50). Again, all of these cities are run by Democrats.

Numbeo’s report contains both a Crime Index, which is an estimation of overall levels of crime in a given city, and a Safety index. A city with a high safety index is considered very safe. A city with a high crime index is considered anything but. If a city’s crime levels are lower than 20, for instance, this is considered excellent. Crime levels between 20 and 40 are considered good; crime levels between 40 and 60 are moderate; crime levels between 60 and 80 are considered high. Finally, crime levels higher than 80 are considered dangerously high. The Safety Index, meanwhile, is ranked in the completely opposite way, with scores higher than 80 indicating that a city is very safe, and scores under 20 indicating that a city is borderline uninhabitable.

Baltimore has a Crime Index score of 75.5 and a Safety Index score of 24.5. “Charm City” finds itself sandwiched between Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago, and Rosario, Argentina’s third-most populous city.

In 2019, then-U.S. Attorney General William Barr referred to Baltimore as the country’s “robbery capital.” Although the comment was deemed controversial by some commentators, it is amply substantiated by crime statistics. Last year, the city of 576,000 experienced a sharp spike in robberies, with robberies of convenience stores jumping by 300%. Baltimore also suffered a sharp increase in homicides.

Some 900 miles away, in Memphis, overall crime increased by more than 8% last year. By August of 2022, 4,501 crimes had been reported in the downtown area of the city, 600 more than had been reported by August of 2021, according to the city’s Data Hub.

In Detroit, more than 220 officers left the police department last year. Long known as the automobile capital of the world, Detroit has, in recent times, become more closely associated with assaults, shootings and homicides. On New Year’s Day, for instance, a total of 6 people were shot, one of them fatally. Five days later, a 16-year-old was killed and an 11-year-old was injured in yet another shooting.

Democrats have often been labeled “soft on crime” by their opponents. The latest Numbeo report will do little to stem such denunciations.

If this guy in Chicago had been executed for the two felony murders that he committed in 2009, he wouldn’t have gone on to murder three more people in 2022.

He confessed to these three new murders. So why not execute him tomorrow?

Portage Park mass shooting suspect held without bail

By Lauren Victory and Sabrina Franza

December 14, 2022

CHICAGO (CBS) – A judge ruled that the man charged with murdering three people and critically wounding another in the mass shooting outside of a party in Portage Park over the weekend would be held without bail.

Samuel Parsons-Salas, 32, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of kidnapping related to the early Sunday shooting.

Police said he admitted to the shootings and apologized for killing one of the victims who was hiding behind a car.

In court on Wednesday, prosecutors said the incident started at around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday when someone hit Mariah Vera, 25, whose birthday was being celebrated at the party. Her father Ricky Vera, 50, approached Parsons-Salas outside asking who hit his daughter.

Then Parsons-Salas retrieved a gun from a car and shot Ricky Vera in the head and chest, killing him. The suspect then fatally shot family friend Mario Pozuelos, 26, who was standing nearby.

He also shot Mariah Vera as she was kneeling over her wounded father and rendering aid to him. Mariah was hit in the head and is in critical condition with bone fragments in her brain.

Prosecutors added how Parsons-Salas then noticed Mercedes Tavares, who was hiding behind a nearby white van. He approached her and shot her at close range. As she lay shot on the sidewalk, the suspect stood over her and shot her again.

Police said Parsons-Salas fled in another vehicle with another person inside. On Wednesday, prosecutors said that person was Parsons-Salas’ girlfriend of two weeks. She ran into a car when he started shooting. Parsons-Salas then got into the car, pointed a gun at her head and told her to drive. She tried to crash the car in hopes of escaping but Parsons-Salas told her to keep driving. They made it to an apartment where he also threatened her if she tried to call anyone.

This is the source of the kidnapping charge.

Parsons-Salas was released on supervised release in September of this year, stemming from a September 2009 armed home invasion that left two people dead in the Albany Park neighborhood. Angelina Escobar and her fiancé, Alex Santiago, were shot and killed in that 2009 home invasion and robbery in the 3500 block of West Sunnyside Avenue.

He was charged in that crime in 2014. Another defendant, Christopher Doehring, is serving a life sentence for pulling the trigger.

The next year, Parsons-Salas was charged with assaulting a jail guard.

Court records show Parsons-Salas pleaded guilty in 2018 to two charges after a plea deal related to the 2009 incident. He was sentenced to eight years in prison, but got credit for four years and eight months already served. Prosecutors could not say why he received the plea deal.

CBS 2 was able to connect with Diane Lauletta, the mother of 2009 home invasion murder victim Escobar.

“I don’t know what idiot entity would let a demon like that out on the street,” said Lauletta.

Lauletta was appalled at the punishment in her daughter’s case and is horrified to hear Parsons-Salas is accused of more violence.

“Whoever let him out, how do you sleep?” Lauletta said. “How can you sleep at night? How can you sleep knowing that three more innocent people are dead?”

She said the Portage Park mass shooting waws a crime that could have, and should have, been prevented.

“I was utterly appalled,” she said. “I knew that something bad would happen – and I was proven right.”

Lauletta, who held a Zoom call with us from Los Angeles just after throat surgery Wednesday, has met Parsons-Salas before.

“Illinois should be ashamed,” said Lauletta, “because three more people are dead because of this this creature – and it didn’t have to happen.”

She emphasized that while Doehring was the one convicted of pulling the trigger in the 2009 home invasion, Parsons-Salas was also very much involved.

“He enabled them. He drove them there,” she said. “He enabled them to be murdered.”

Now, Parsons-Salas is behind bars again – less than three months after getting out on supervised release.

“Who is going to apologize to these families on behalf of the court system?” Lauletta said.

The Illinois Department of Corrections said Parsons-Salas wasn’t “granted parole,” but was out on supervised release at the time of this past weekend’s homicides because his sentence for the home invasion was up.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot complained about food deserts in her city, but she was afraid to point out their cause

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot recently complained about the lack of grocery stores in certain Chicago neighborhoods.

But she was afraid to point out the cause.

I’m not afraid to point it out.

It’s really a shame that Lightfoot is such a coward.

Just yesterday, I wrote this other blog post about crime in Chicago. It’s called, “The pro-crime, bleeding heart liberals kept releasing violent serial criminal Pherris Harrington, 26, of Chicago, so he could continue to commit more violent crimes. The bleeding heart liberals got exactly what they were hoping for.”

The pro-crime, bleeding heart liberals kept releasing violent serial criminal Pherris Harrington, 26, of Chicago, so he could continue to commit more violent crimes. The bleeding heart liberals got exactly what they were hoping for.

By Daniel Alman (aka Dan from Squirrel Hill)

November 15, 2022

Pherris Harrington, 26, is a violent serial criminal from Chicago.

Harrington was convicted of armed robbery. But the bleeding heart liberals decided to let him out on parole so he could commit more violent crimes.

Even though his parole forbade Harrington from leaving Illinois, he went to Branford, Connecticut, where, on October 25, 2022, he committed armed robbery at a gas station.

Even though this was at least Harrington’s second armed robbery (I’m guessing there have probably been others, given his age), and even though he violated his parole, the bleeding heart liberals still insisted that it would be wrong to lock him up.

So, on November 13, 2022, in Chicago, Harrington did exactly what the bleeding heart liberals were hoping he would do.

He committed a carjacking.

He kidnapped a baby that was in the car’s back seat.

He crashed the stolen car into several vehicles.

He assaulted a paramedic.

He assaulted a police officer.

In other words, Harrington did exactly what the bleeding heart liberals wanted him to do when they repeatedly refused to keep him locked up.

Chicago makes it really, really easy for serial armed robbers to avoid getting caught

Moments after 2 more armed robberies in Wicker Park, CPD boss orders cops to stop following men wanted for over a dozen hold-ups

September 10, 2022

An armed robbery crew that has struck repeatedly in Wicker Park and Avondale returned to the area to commit two more daylight robberies on Friday morning. Chicago police spotted the offenders as they fled from the second robbery scene, but a CPD supervisor ordered units not to follow the car onto the expressway. So, the armed men, wanted for more than a dozen armed and sometimes violent robberies, remain at large to commit more crimes.

Chicago police say both robberies happened around 11 a.m. on Friday, about 10 minutes apart.

First, two men got out of a dark sedan and grabbed a 50-year-old woman’s purse as she walked in the 1800 block of North Winchester, a CPD spokesperson said. The purse strap broke, but the robbers couldn’t get it from her before they fled the scene, according to police.

One of the robbers was armed with a handgun.

The CPD spokesperson said that minutes later, two men stepped out of a dark-colored car and confronted a 30-year-old man walking in the 2300 block of West Wabansia. While one offender pointed a gun at the victim, the other went through the man’s pockets to take valuables, according to CPD.

In both cases, the offenders were described as Black males wearing hoodies and face masks who escaped in a four-door car with a passenger-side window taped up or covered with a garbage bag.

That’s the vehicle and suspect description given in a string of robberies reported in the area since August 22, including at least eight other robberies this month. The crew has pistol-whipped some victims and fired shots during at least one hold-up, according to CPD.

Detectives have publicly linked robberies on the following dates and times to the same group:

1300 block of North Parkside Ave on August 22 at 1:40 p.m.

4700 block of West Le Moyne Ave on August 22 at 1:46 p.m.

2000 block of North Campbell Ave on September 4 at 8:10 p.m.

5900 block of North Central Park Ave on September 4 at 8:40 p.m.

2000 block of West Potomac Ave on September 4 at 9:05 p.m.

2800 block of North Maplewood Ave on September 5 at 11:30 p.m.

2800 block of North Campbell Ave on September 5 at 11:34 p.m.

1900 block of North Spaulding Ave on September 5 at 11:50 p.m.

1700 block of West Ellen St on September 6 at 6:58 p.m.

1200 block of North Wood St on September 6 at 7:01 p.m.

On Friday, cops spotted the car, a black Kia with a taped-up rear passenger window, at 11:09 a.m., moments after the second robbery, according to police radio transmissions. They followed the vehicle until it reached the Kennedy Expressway.

“After it gets on the expressway, let it go,” a supervisor radioed.

The officers followed those directions, as CPD’s auto pursuit policy requires.

CPD’s pursuit rules, written in August 2020, provide officers with 11 pages of instructions to consider when deciding if a vehicle should be pursued. It says very clearly that the CPD won’t punish any officer for ending a car chase and that they must obey any order from a supervisor to stop following or chasing a suspect.

The order was meant to reduce the number of accidents and injuries to innocent bystanders during police chases. Chicago has paid out millions of dollars to settle lawsuits filed by crash victims and their families.

But one consequence of the city’s policy is that people who commit violent crimes remain on the loose to commit more violent crimes.

As CWBChicago reported just days ago, Chicago cops terminated pursuits and “follows” of another robbery crew’s vehicle at least five times in the six months between November 2021 and May 2022. That group of offenders is believed to have robbed well over 50 people, often pistol-whipping and sometimes firing shots. Their string of crimes culminated with the brutal shooting and robbery of Dakotah Earley in Lincoln Park on May 6.

In fact, CWB has reported, police terminated a “follow” of that group’s car about an hour before it rolled up Earley.

During a recent discussion about the growing police practice of not pursuing violent offenders, former New York City police sergeant Joseph Giacolone tweeted, “You’re dammed if you do and dammed if you don’t, however, dammed if you don’t is what the politicians want.”

Chicago gives convicted murderer probation instead of jail

Chicago area teen guilty of murdering 15-year-old boy during drug deal gets probation

By Emma Colton

December 15, 2021

A teenager in a Chicago suburb who pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing a 15-year-old was sentenced to three years of probation and to complete community service hours.

“When the defendant stabbed my son, he stabbed the heart of my family,” the victim’s mother, Marcela Fierros, said in a statement that was read in court Monday.

The unidentified defendant pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after 15-year-old Elias Valdez was fatally stabbed in August of 2020 in Glenview, which is about about 20 miles from Chicago. The defendant was charged as a juvenile in the case.

In addition to probation and completing 100 community service hours, a Cook County judge ordered the 17-year-old high school senior and his parents to participate in counseling.

The stabbing unfolded when Valdez tried to buy marijuana from the defendant but tried to take the drugs without paying for them, according to police. The defendant chased Valdez, ending with the two fighting and the defendant stabbing him with a utility tool. He died later that day in the hospital.

“I’m mad,” Valdez’s sister, Elizabeth Valdez, told the Chicago Tribune after his death. “It’s not fair how he passed away. It’s not fair to know that he’s gone and I’m not receiving answers.”

The 15-year-old’s family wanted the defendant to be charged with first-degree murder, and protests were held last year when he was instead charged with second-degree murder and held on home monitoring.

“I feel sad for the loss of my son,” Fierros said in Spanish in September 2020. “I also feel angry because justice has not been given.”

The death comes as Chicago struggles with teen flash mobs in the city. Twenty young people were arrested in the city one weekend this month for disorderly conduct, battery and reckless conduct. A city bus driver was also attacked on the street the night of Dec. 4 and required hospitalization.

“If you come downtown or anywhere else, let me repeat, or anywhere else to engage in disorderly conduct or crimes, you will be arrested,” Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said last week.

Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot said “swift action” would be taken against the perpetrators and called on parents to take responsibility for their kids.

“These kids have to take responsibility, but I’m going to say the parents have to take responsibility,” she said. “Do you know where your kid is? Are you making sure that you’re talking to your children about how they should act in a large crowd?”

Magnificent Mile no more: Chicago is blighted by shoplifting as ANOTHER American city goes down the toilet because its left-wing AG stops prosecuting shoplifters who steal less than $1000 of goods

Magnificent Mile no more: Chicago is blighted by shoplifting as ANOTHER American city goes down the toilet because its left-wing AG stops prosecuting shoplifters who steal less than $1000 of goods

Chicago’s Magnificent Mile has been the target of rampant shoplifting that caused several stores to close their doors

State’s Attorney Kim Foxx mandates that Chicago prosecutors only issue felony charges for theft of property over $1,000

Thieves know they can grab armfuls of merchandise without being stopped by store security

The city’s crime issue may only grow worse as at least 50 cops have been put on unpaid leave for refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine

Cities throughout the country are facing similar issues, including San Francisco, where Walgreens just announced is was closing another five stores

By Brian Stieglitz

October 20, 2021

Chicago is the latest city to be hit by rampant shoplifting and its Magnificent Mile, the once highly-populated retail destination, is now dotted with empty storefronts as businesses are being driven away by the brazen thieves.

The city has been plagued by a string of robberies and a wave of crime in the past few months, as some say that the city’s ‘soft-on-crime’ policies embolden the thieves. The issue may only grow worse as at least 50 cops have been put on unpaid leave for refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Shoplifting cases grew more common following a December 2016 motion from State’s Attorney Kim Foxx that mandated Chicago prosecutors only issue felony charges for theft of property over $1,000.

Her officer said at the time that the move was meant to shift focus to the driving factors of the crimes instead of low-level offenses. In turn, however, thieves know they can grab armfuls of merchandise without being stopped by store security.

Chicago’s most recent shoplifting spree involved a group of men who robbed three 7-Eleven convenience stores downtown in a span of 30 minutes on Monday morning.

Four armed men robbed a 7-Eleven on East Lake Street at 8.29am, in which they took an undetermined amount of cash before fleeing in a black vehicle, police said. Five minutes later, police believe the same group wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts, robbed another 7-Eleven and, just before 9am, they made a final stop at a third 7-Eleven and robbed it at gunpoint.

No arrests have been made as of Wednesday afternoon.

‘It’s a serious problem, and we have to address it,’ Alderman Brian Hopkins told CBS Chicago, explaining that the issue affects commercial real estate as well as public safety.

‘The commercial brokers tell us that when they get potential interest from a tenant, that’s one of the first questions they ask, is what’s happening in Chicago to stem the tide of retail shoplifting rings that have been operating with impunity downtown? And we don’t have a good answer right now for that.’

Hopkins added, ‘I think we have to look at prosecution. Clearly there’s a feeling running through the criminal elements that there are no consequences here. We have to look to the courts, and I think we have to just look to all the players in this drama to get Chicago to what it once was.’

The city’s approach to prosecuting retail crime is similar to one in San Francisco, where prosecutors only issue felony charges for thefts of property worth over $950. Walgreens cited the shoplifting issue as the reason it closed 17 stores and is planning to close another five throughout the city, the pharmacy chain announced last week.

Stores throughout Chicago’s Magnificent Mile are doing the same as Macy’s closed its 170,000-square-foot flagship store in Water Tower Place last spring, Japanese retailer Uniqlo closed its 60,000-square-foot store in August and the Disney Store closed its 7,000-square-foot location on Michigan Avenue last month.

In the past few years, Gap, Forever 21 and Tommy Bahama have also closed stores on the Magnificent Mile. The vacancy rate has skyrocketed from 11 percent in 2019 to 19 percent this year, according to ABC 7.

‘We recognize community concerns around crime, and the impact it can have on one’s sense of safety as well as the economic stability of a business,’ the State’s Attorney’s office wrote in a statement to CBS Chicago before doubling down on its approach to retail crime.

‘We continue to prosecute retail theft cases as misdemeanors and felonies when appropriate to do so based on the facts and evidence,’ the statement continued.

The State’s Attorney’s office said that so far this year, its prosecutors have reviewed and issued 38 total charges for retail theft in areas of Chicago including the Magnificent Mile and Streeterville. Of that number, 18 were approved as felony charges, 10 were prosecuted and six were convicted.

The city’s shoplifting issue could grow worse as the Chicago Police Department has started placing officers on unpaid leave for failing to report their vaccination status by Friday’s deadline.

So far, about 50 officers have been placed on an unpaid status, according to Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Monday, however, called the 50 officers a ‘very small number’ who have had their pay stopped by the city for refusing to cooperate with the mandate.

As of Tuesday, 4,543 officers – a little over one third of the force – have not complied and are being given one last chance to report whether they’ve been vaccinated or be put on no-pay status.

Meanwhile, the city has started seeking recruits from suburban Illinois to fill the potential staffing shortage.

Robb Karr, president and CEO of the Illinois Retail Merchants Association, told CBS Chicago that loss of sales tax associated with shoplifting – on top of the closing stores – further hinder Chicago’s post-pandemic recovery.

‘The impression around the nation is that Chicago is not a very safe place to be,’ he said. ‘And the incidents we saw this morning, over the weekend, the episodes before that, only feed that.’

Late last month, a gang of shoplifters was filmed brazenly ransacking UIta Beauty store in the Windy City’s Norridge suburb over the weekend. Footage showed a gang of three hooded thieves emptying its shelves of expensive Christian Dior and Armani makeup into black trash bags.

It was shared on social media Monday, with the shocked cameraman, who hasn’t been named, saying: ‘Look at this, this is insane,’ as he films the theft unfolding before his eyes.

It came as CWB Chicago reported Chicago’s stores have been targeted by three different organized crime gangs. One of those gangs has been targeting upmarket designer stores on the city’s Magnificent Mile, whose businesses were hit by looting in summer 2020 during riots in the wake of George Floyd’s murder.

The second has targeted at least three Ulta Beauty stores – although it’s currently unclear if that is the same gang filmed at the Norridge location. And a third gang has been raiding Walgreen’s drug stores to steal cigarettes.

The first shoplifting crew was stealing from high-end Chicago stores between the Magnificent Mile and Rush Street, according to CWB Chicago. Twelve men were seen involved in a raid of 35 handbags at Bottega Veneta on September 27 – which go for thousands of dollars each- and left in two separate cars, including a gray Honda CRV.

The same crew allegedly attempted to steal from Salvatore Ferragamo an hour before but left after they were believed to be recognized by the store’s security guard. They already reportedly stole $43,000 worth of the store’s merchandise in August and injured the security guard during the theft.

‘Michigan Avenue is the economic engine of the city of Chicago. Almost 20% of the jobs are in the mag mile district jobs in the city of Chicago,’ Jack Lavin, the president and CEO of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, said to ABC 7. ‘$180 million of sales tax revenue is generated by this district, it’s the largest neighborhood in the city of Chicago.’

He said that the Chamber is pushing for ‘innovative’ ways to attract merchants back to the Magnificent Mile, adding that this may involve breaking large spaces up into smaller retail shops.

Meanwhile, the most recent victim of Chicago’s violent crime wave was a police officer who was shot in the face on Monday and returned to work that same evening, saluted by his colleagues as he entered the precinct still wearing his hospital gown.

The unnamed officer was shot in the cheek when he confronted Jovan McPherson, a felon on probation, who was threatening and holding a woman at gunpoint at a busy Lincoln Park strip mall, Cook County prosecutors said Tuesday.

McPherson allegedly pulled out a gun and a struggle ensued as the officer tried to take the weapon away, prosecutors said. That’s when McPherson fired a shot that struck the officer in the cheek, prosecutors said.

Chicago’s pattern of crime and shoplifting mirrors that of other cities like San Francisco, in which Walgreens announced that it is shuttering another five of its stores because of rampant shoplifting by thieves who sell the items outside the drugstore chain’s doors.

The national chain has closed 17 of its 70 San Francisco locations in the past two years because of the shelf raiders, who have swiped everything not behind lock and key.

Thefts in the chain’s 53 remaining stores are five times the average for their stores elsewhere in the country, according to company officials.

San Francisco and Walgreens officials have cited ‘organized retail crime’ – in which the thieves sell the swiped merchandise outside the stores – as a main reason for the most recent closures.

‘Organized retail crime continues to be a challenge facing retailers across San Francisco, and we are not immune to that,’ Walgreens spokesperson Phil Caruso told the Daily Mail last Wednesday.

‘Retail theft across our San Francisco stores has continued to increase in the past few months to five times our chain average.’

Viral videos taken throughout the summer have shown shoplifters brazenly sauntering out of stores with armfuls of stolen goods as witnesses watch in shock.

In one incident, surveillance footage caught a group of thieves in masks and hoodies sprinting out of a San Francisco Neiman Marcus with armfuls of designer handbags and others casually walking out of a TJ Maxx store carrying bags worth of goods.

In another, in June, a prolific shoplifter who had stolen from the same Walgreens on at least four occasions, was seen loading armfuls of Walgreens products into a trash bag, then riding his bike through the store with the stolen goods while the security guard and bystanders looked on.

The suspect, Jean Lugo-Romero, 40, was arrested on June 19 and remains in jail.

Shoplifting has been a problem in the Democrat-run state since 2014 – following the passage of Proposition 47, a ballot referendum known as the Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act – that downgraded the theft of property worth less than $950 in value from a felony to a misdemeanor.

Cases have jumped during the pandemic as store staff and security guards choose not to pursue the thieves. Larceny and theft remain the most common crimes committed in San Francisco, increasing by about 8 percent from last year. There were 21,842 cases reported through October 10 of this year, compared with 20,254 cases during the same time through 2020.

The Walgreens locations that will be closing include: 2550 Ocean Avenue, on November 8, 4645 Mission Street, on November 11, 745 Clement Street, on November 15, 300 Gough Street on November 15, and 3400 Cesar Chavez Street on November 17.

New York City stores are also rife with shoplifting incidents and, earlier this month, a TikTok video went viral that revealed brazen thieves stealing from a Rite Aid in front of a security guard before leaving with their stolen items. The security guard, a woman named India who said she worked at a Rite Aid, posted the video to TikTok and dubbed it ‘a typical night at work.’

It showed a parade of people taking things off the shelves and walking out with one of the thieves even smiling and waving at her as he passed.

The comment led people to ask her why she isn’t stopping the thieves if she is supposed to be a security guard, to which she replied: ‘Because it’s illegal to touch, grab or use any physical force to stop them.’

Instead, she said, her job is to ‘observe and report.’

Chicago Police Release Video Showing ‘Ambush’ by Antifa/BLM Rioters Who Attacked Them, Injuring 49 Cops

By Nick Arama

July 20, 2020

As we previously reported, BLM protesters and Antifa attacked police in a full-on assault on Friday, surrounding them and pelting them with bricks, rocks, full metal cans and frozen water bottles, even explosive fireworks, among other items as police stood in a circle around a statue of Christopher Columbus to prevent it from being torn down.

On Monday, Chicago’s Police Superintendent David Brown released a video of the attack, explaining how they had been “ambushed” by “organized actions to provoke violent response from our officers,” according to Fox News.

The video shows protesters hiding behind umbrellas and banners to quickly change into Antifa black bloc attire prior to moving in on the cops and attacking them. It also show them distributing items for protesters to throw at the police.

The protester/rioters also used umbrellas to shield themselves and as weapons against the police, as they pelted the police with projectiles. Others used sharpened PVC pipe to try to stab the police officers.

Forty nine police officers were injured, including one with a broken eye socket and another who had a broken kneecap.

The police were overwhelmed and the radicals damaged the statue and began putting ropes on it to pull it down.

Reinforcements came on the run and beat the violent rioters back. Twelve people were arrested for mob action, damage to property and attacking police officers.

“We cannot be a city that thinks mob action of a crowd is acceptable behavior,” Brown said, noting that when chaotic protests occur, the department is forced to divert manpower from policing high-crime areas.

The city reported 63 people shot and 12 killed over another violent weekend.

In response to Friday’s events, Brown said he’s ordered all officers to wear “any and all protective gear” when policing demonstrations.

“We cannot assume that protests are going to be peaceful, based on these actions and others,” he said.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot said “vigilantes” attended Friday’s protest with intentions of violently engaging with authorities.

“That’s not peaceful protest. That’s anarchy,” she said during a Monday groundbreaking of a restaurant. “We can’t have a circumstance where a small subset of that try to take over and hijack the peaceful protest and then turn it into a fight with the police.”

It’s not “hijacking” when the protesters are clearly involved and in fact are the rioters. And it happens at virtually every “protest.” It’s the “protests” that are the cover for the riots.

Everyone involved in the organizing of the event needs to be under investigation.

Chicago Mayor Forced To Defend Getting A Haircut In Violation Of Her Own Stay-At-Home Order

Chicago Mayor Forced To Defend Getting A Haircut In Violation Of Her Own Stay-At-Home Order

April 7, 2020

Chicago’s mayor Lori Lightfoot is on the defensive Tuesday after a Chicago hair stylist revealed on social media that she’d given the mayor a haircut in violation of Lightfoot’s own stay-at-home orders.

Illinois was one of the first states to institute a full shelter-in-place program to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, and has been warning its residents to stay home at all costs unless they need necessary items like food or prescrition medication. The state had some of the first cases of coronavirus in the nation and, so far, around 11,000 Illinois residents are infected with the disease and 275 have died.

Lightfoot is, herself, the face of the Chicago stay-at-home order, appearing regularly on television to remind Chicagoans of the need to remain self-quarantined and her frequent lectures have earned her space on memes, where she stares down would-be fun-havers with her steely glare.

It has mostly been a positive time for Lightfoot — until Monday, that is, when her hair stylist posted a post-haircut photo with the mayor on social media. The stylist apparently visited Lightfoot at home and wore a mask and gloves to give Lightfoot a trim — something ordinary Chicagoans can’t get, given that barber shops and salons are shuttered until further notice.

Lightfoot was forced to defend her actions, according to the Chicago Tribune.

“Asked about photos on social media showing her with a stylist, Lightfoot acknowledged getting a haircut, then said the public cares more about other issues,” the Trib reported.

“I think what really people want to talk about is, we’re talking about people dying here. We’re talking about significant health disparities. I think that’s what people care most about,” she added.

Lightfoot contended that she was abiding by her own rules because the stylist came prepared: “The woman who cut my hair had a mask and gloves on so we are, I am practicing what I’m preaching,” she said during a press conference.

Asked what separated her from average Chicagoans who are forgoing beauty treatments in order to abide by regulations they’ve been told are saving lives, Lightfoot claimed that her status affords her some special privileges.

“I am the public face of this city. I’m on national media and I’m out in the public eye,” she said. “I take my personal hygiene very seriously. As I said, I felt like I needed to have a haircut. I’m not able to do that myself, so I got a haircut. You want to talk more about that?”

That last part didn’t sit well with some Chicagoans, who accused the mayor of abiding by one set of rules while mandating a second set of rules for less important residents. Indeed, just weeks ago, Lightfoot called the stay-at-home order a matter of life and death.

“Congregating on our lakefront, to be blunt, is going to create a risk that is unacceptable and could lead to death,” she said in a speech announcing that Chicago’s recreational areas, parks, and public beaches would be closed to traffic. “That is why we are taking these actions and going back and saying again: dear god, stay home, save lives.”

Chicago community organizers accuse Chicago community organizer Barack Obama of not practicing what he preaches

Before Barack Obama ran for political office, he was a community organizer in Chicago.

Now that he is an ex-President, he is planning to build his presidential library in Chicago.

However, the city’s other community organizers have accused Obama of not practicing what he preaches.

The Washington Post reports:

In what local pundits are calling the irony of ironies, Obama — who cut his teeth as a South Side community organizer — is now in the bull’s eye of the area’s community organizers.

Dozens of groups have asked the city, the Obama Foundation and the University of Chicago (the official library host) to sign a legally binding pledge to protect low-income housing and homeowners, set aside 80 percent of jobs for immediate neighbors and bolster support for black-owned businesses, among other things.

At a community meeting last month, Obama said he wasn’t interested, according to the Chicago Tribune. Agreements such as those, he said, can be highly successful for communities dealing with for-profit developers.

“But here’s the thing,” he said. “We are a nonprofit and aren’t making money. We are just bringing money to the community.”

Cook County Circuit Judge William Hooks is a bigger scumbag than the four scumbags who kidnapped and tortured a learning disabled man in Chicago

In January of this year in Chicago, two black men and two black women kidnapped a learning disabled white man, imprisoned him, tortured him, cut off part of his scalp, forced him to drink from the toilet, demanded ransom from his parents, and posted part of the torture as a video on Facebook. They also called him racial slurs, which puts this into the hate crime category.

Well, one of these scumbags has just been sentenced to probation instead of prison, after spending less than one year in jail. Her name is Brittany Covington. (The other three scumbags – Tesfaye Cooper, Jordan Hill, Tanishia Covington – are still awaiting sentencing.)

Given the horrific kidnapping, imprisonment, violence, and torture that they committed, I think all four of these scumbags should be forced to spend at least several decades in prison.

The fact that Brittany Covington was sentenced to probation instead of prison is inexcusable.

The judge responsible for giving probation instead of a prison sentence to this violent scumbag is Cook County Circuit Judge William Hooks.

Judge Hooks said he could have given her a prison sentence, but chose not to because “I’m not sure if I did that you’d be coming out any better.”

Although prison is referred to as a “correctional facility,” that is not the only reason that we put people who are convicted of violent crimes in prison. We also do it to protect the innocent, as well as to send a message to the guilty that their violent behavior is not to be tolerated.

Judge Hooks is a bigger scumbag than the four scumbags who kidnapped and tortured the learning disabled man.

By not sentencing Brittany Covington to prison, Judge Hooks is giving his approval to what Brittany Covington did. He is saying that what she did is OK. He is saying that what she did is acceptable.

But in the real world, what Brittany Covington did is not OK.

It is not acceptable.

Shame on Judge Hooks.

In Chicago during the fourth of July weekend, more than 100 Democrats shot each other

Chicago’s city council currently has 49 Democrats and 1 Republican.

The mayor is a Democrat.

The city clerk is a Democrat.

The city treasurer is a Democrat.

The last time Chicago elected a Republican mayor was in the year 1927.

During the recent fourth of July weekend in Chicago, 102 people were shot.

15 of those people were killed.

We don’t see anything like this in any of the U.S. cities that are controlled by Republicans.

Chicago public school suspends teacher because he taught students how to use wrenches, pliers, and screwdrivers

CNS News reports:

Attorneys for The Rutherford Institute have filed a civil rights lawsuit against a Chicago public school district on behalf of a second-grade teacher who was suspended after he displayed garden-variety tools such as wrenches, pliers and screwdrivers in his classroom as part of a “tool discussion” in his class.

Despite the fact that all potentially hazardous items were kept out of the students’ reach, school officials at Washington Irving Elementary School informed Doug Bartlett, a 17-year veteran in the classroom, that his use of the tools as visual aids endangered his students. Bartlett was subsequently penalized with a four-day suspension without pay – charged with possessing, carrying, storing or using a weapon.

“This school district’s gross overreaction to a simple teaching demonstration on basic tools such as wrenches and pliers underscores exactly what is wrong with our nation’s schools,” said Rutherford Institute Pres. John Whitehead.

None of the tools were made accessible to the students. When not in use, the tools were secured in a toolbox on a high shelf out of reach of the students. They were used to demonstrate the proper use of tools

We need more teachers like this. It’s too bad the idiot bureaucrats suspended him for teaching his students skills that are actually useful in the real world.

Chicago’s government-run health care is almost as horrible as its government-run schools

This article from CBS is a great example of the mindset of the people who run the city of Chicago.

Chicago set up a government run health care clinic inside a garbage truck garage. Only after the media reported on it did the government decide it was a bad idea.

The mindset that says it’s a good idea to run a health care clinic in such a filthy environment, is the same mindset that is in charge of running Chicago’s public schools.
